Hey guys! So i had an order of led's arrive today (red 74's) and I was planning to install them to change the lighting of the PRND2L gear indicators on the gauge cluster today. I was able to install them, however the light doesn't show through the cluster:headbang:....if that makes sense. I think there's green colored film/plastic as well, but the main issue seems to be that the bulbs are designed in such a way that they are not directly lined up with the gear indicators, and therefore the directional light of an led can't shine through. If any one has successfully installed led's and changed the color of these lights on the cluster I would really appreciate some insight. Thanks!

What kinda LED's did you get?

I tried to do mine in blue.... the entire interior lighting, that is. I first tried eBay LED's and they failed in almost every way possible. But I've eventually gotten it all blue, and even color, except the clock, and the PRND2L.

Something like the SMD LED's ( http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&Page2Disp=/specs/74-xHP.html ) will shine through there, I think. But I have no idea what to do about the film, so I haven't tried yet.

You have to take the plastic backing off (you know, the speed stuff) which reveals a rectangular green piece. Remove that, and you can have red. You should buy leds that have like an SMD on the front since it's a lot brighter than just a regular old led.

And to change turn signals you pick off the green circle, and then you can cut out like a piece of clear vinyl to cover the hole.

I knew about the turn signals. But that's it for the PRNect? I hadn't even gotten around to trying them yet. Still hung up and aggravated with the clock.

Lol the clock just sucks. Mine is hard to see sometimes but at least it's red <_<.

But yah, on the dash, when you unscrew the black template, behind it is a maybe 2x4 inch piece of plastic, mostly green, orange box for the reverse light, and because red can't penetrate green, you get little to no light.

So yah, just remove that piece for the PRL2D lights. It's hard to explain what is it. I think I posted a picture of it on one of the old topics.

These are the bulbs I ordered and currently have 7 of. The are the 74-x 100degree bulbs near the bottom of the page. Any foreseeable reason as to why these would not work? Could they be too long that they wont work? I remember what you're talkin about with a green filter from when I had that whole thing apart installing reverse glows. This color change and a bulb replacement for the gear indicator on the center console are the last two things on my light changing list, so fingers crossed!

They might work, once you remove the filter. Maybe DM616 knows?

I know I'm gonna re-look into it and order me some blue SMD LED's for mine, now that I know there is just a filter to remove!

I also just snagged a clock on eBay that I'm going to hack up and try to make it work how I want it to.

That's weird. Do you see ANY light, or it looks like it's cut off?

If it's cut off, it's probably not bright enough. My park light is cut off cuz its a crappy red led.

Now, I know superbrightled is a reputable site, but half the time the shit from china on Ebay is pretty good too, although you have to order the right leds and a bunch incase they don't work/ go out....but it is much cheaper. The other half is the led works but it isn't as bright as you hope.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/5x-T5-74-70...Parts_Accessories&hash=item484521fa45&vxp=mtr

These would probably work good and be bright. If you need more than 5, message the seller and throw an offer. They'll more than likely say yes. I have the same one for the reverse, but it's white, so it's gonna be bright. Red is hit or miss.

If you can't see any light, you did remove the green filter right??

Well when I tired to install without removing the filter I was just bearly able to see some light change when I shifted through, so I'm planning to take everything apart tomorrow and remove the filter when the bulb for my center console arrives tomorrow. I'll update on how it goes and get some pics up if all goes well!

I honestly wish I knew, as soon as I put in my LEDS in the gauge (the five main ones) I smelt that god awful electrical burn and then the gauge went dead. No idea why.

Nope. Tried cutting up 2 different clocks from eBay and never could come up with something that changed the color, but also let enough light through in the day time.
