Hey guys Ive spent about an hour browsing this site and need some advice.

I am 20 years old and love luxury sedans. I am thinkin about buying an 02-03 avalon XLS. I cannot spend more than 20000 out the door. Just wondering if there are any issues with the car I should know about and any suggestions in general. (i dont want to find out afterward about problems afterward like how bad my tranny is with my mazda 626) How much should I expect to pay for an XLS with around 50k miles on it? Also that powertrain warranty is transferrable correct?

Thanks guys.

EDIT: Im really leaning toward an 03 as im in love with that steering wheel.

I Can Tell You That If You Would Buy A 03 Xls, You Would Do A Great Investment. I Recently Purchased A Xls 03 With 960 Miles On It, It's Like Brand New, Never Driven Only Kept In The Garage And I Love It. I Had A 05' Matrix Before And I Wasnt Satisfied At All. This Is My First Luxury Car And I Am Shocked How Nice This Car Is. My Family Drives A Mercedes Benz S 500 And My Avalon Is Compatable With The Benz In Every Way. Other Then The Mercedes Has A Stronger Engine, The Avalon Comes As Strong As Any Other Luxury Car. You Will Love It.
Any Questions, Let Me Know

well there were several changes for the '03 year, such as the tail lights and the avaliability of additional packages such as navigation.

Both of my Parents have '01 Avys which are the same as the '02s my mother has an Loaded XLS, she got it with 43,000 miles for 19k out the door, it was owned by an older couple who had stealership maitenence records from the day they bought it. Neither of our avys has had any problems at all.

and you might want to look at some '01s too, they might be in better condition than some '02s or '03s for less money.

COULD YOU TELL ME, WHAT IS THE BRAND NAME OR MODEL NUMBER FOR THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM THAT IS BEING USED IN THE 2003 AVALON?
THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL TO ME CAUSE I AM THINKING ABOUT ADDING A NAVIGATION TO MY AVALON. I HAVE A FULLY LOADED 03 AVALON BUT ITS MISSING A NAVIGATION SYSTEM AND I WOULD LIKE TO GET THE ORIGINAL INSTEAD OF A AFTERMARKET MODEL.

THANK YOU
 CjMoney - I applaud your choice of vehicle and the reasons you want it.

I own an '02 w/69k from new and have had zero issues. Tires, brakes, and suspension wear normally. Engines had a sludge issue solved by synthetic oil and normal change intervals. Other than normal maintenance items it's been free safe and comfortable motoring for four years.
When you shop for a used one, look for good maintenance records, and expect a sizeable bill around 100k. (timing belt, water pump, accessory belts, fluids flushed, spark plugs...)
I did the brakes front and back myself, found them straightforward and OEM parts to be very good providing more wear margins than expected. If you can do the work or want to learn, the vehicle is a good one to get started with. Standard tools, standard parts, no exotic procedures, sane pricing and availability for parts. They provide a drain plug for transfluid to encourage servicing of the trans, although you may have to use the Toyota fluid depending on the model you buy.
Hope this helps your shopping efforts. I expect to hit 250k and twelve years of service with this vehicle, based on what I've seen in four years! Good luck!
