I am trying to help a handicapped friend pick out a car. He wants something new, that has 2 doors, and has a column/dash mounted shifter... He has had 2 monte carlo's, since those were what he could find of late, but wants something different

Any input would be great

caprice classics had a 2-door version back in the day. mid 80s 2-door caddys too. i dont think any cars have been made for a while with a column shifter.

dont a lot of new econo-boxes like the eco and yaris have dash shifters?

yep...AFAIK, minivans are the only column shift vehicles left.

im not even sure really i think the ugly "newest" hatch back civic... (around 02 SI) had the dash mounted...but its such a ugly car

Hmm only minivans and SUVs have column shifters man. If you want a car with a column shifter your going back to the late 80s early 90s.

I couldn't find any pictures of the Standard LX but it appears that there Ford still makes a Crown Victoria with a bench seat according to this clip from a review on Consumer Guide Auto:

my grandmas 04 Lincoln towncar still has a column shifter, im sure they havent changed em yet since theyre probably afraid of old people hitting it or something... plus its a v8 with traction control!! :lol:

yeah 95-99 avalons had column shifter but they werent too popular thats why they dont make them anymo'

they dont make the column shifter anymore. my friend's mom had one. its like the gen 1 avalons had it.

minivans have switched from column to dash type regular shifter found in sedans.
same with suv's

crown vic probably still has that option as well as bench seated pickups.

Think the new Impala's have a 40-20-40 front seat option which doesn't have a console shift. But it's a 4-door.
