First let me state i know nothing about truck tires. I just bout my first truck this past weekend!

ok since thats out of the way, i am looking to replace my stock p245/75r16 tires on my 05 tacoma SR5, TRD. What is the largest size i can put on these stock rims?

Would it even make sense to go bigger? Would a larger tire make a noticeable difference in how high i am riding in the truck?

Are there any pictures out there of larger tires on stock rims?

Would i need to get a 5th tire of that size to replace my spare or can i get by on the smaller spare tire?

I just got 235/85r16 bfg all terains opn my truck they look great are the same height as a 265/75r16 but are lighter and narrower. I think the look great and my milage and power didnt seem to be affected at all. I went this route as the 265 weigh more and were more exspensive.

If yours is a TRD, that pretty much means its a V6 right? Not sure how the packages work...

If you're seriously running 245s, which are ~30 inch tires.... you will definitely notice a difference by going to the normal tire size of 265. That truck has to be a midgett! :) I was getting ~20-21 mpg with the stock 265's. With my 285's (33's) I'm getting 17-18 mpg.

Get yourself a nice set of All Terrain tires, 265 size and you'll be content, I think. Unless you want to go wheeling.

You will, just look around at peoples posts in the "Show us your Truck" thread, you'll find alot of people sticking with 265 tires. They are still a stock tire size, so clearance will not be an issue. You're basically going from a 30" tire to a 32" tire. I'm really surprised it came with that size tire. Look on your drivers side door frame and I bet it will tell you reccommended tire size is 265.

They will rub, I believe the biggest tire you can go with is a 265/75/16. which is about 31.6" tire.

The tire you have listed is about 32.8" tire, which would require a 3" suspension lift to fit, and even then you would most likely need to do some slight trimming.

None of the TRD models came with 245/75/16 as a stock size. You either:

1. Bought something that isn't a true TRD, or

2. Someone swapped the 265 stock larger tires for the 245 smaller ones.

Hopefully someone didn't falsely pass the truck off as a TRD when selling it. I'm surprised nobody picked up on this in your first post - basic information for any Taco enthusiast.

That aside:

You could go the stock TRD size of 265/70/16 or go a size bigger to 265/75/16. The 285 will require the removal of the mud flaps and major trimming without a lift. I think it may also rubb the upper control arms on the stock rims - but am not totally sure.

Can anyone confirm this? I bought it used (1 owner) from a dealership locally. How would I be able to tell if the truck is actually TRD or not?
