The truck is pretty new to me so I don't know how it happened or how long its been like that but those fins are obviously toast. Is there a way to repair the radiator so that I can keep the stock metal coolant tanks and just replace the radiator core? If not, is CSF pretty much the best aftermarket option?

how often was the coolant changed. Looks like corrosion. Given the area looking like air path, might be road salt? Although salt corrosion is usually lower.

If TYC makes one for your truck I’d use it. Check rock auto and search up a 5% off code. TYC is lifetime warranty but CSF has the choices so depends on what you have.

I have a 87 4x4 SR5 22RE. I recently shopped for a new radiator and ordered via ToyotaPartsDeal.com. I looked at other parts suppliers and though less expensive (half the cost) there were lots of complaints on quality, fit, plastic cores, missing parts, etc. I ended up and bought the OEM part from TPD. I am totally happy with perfect fit. New cap was included. I also use the Toyota antifreeze from the dealer. It is more expensive but worth it in my opinion.

One can never go wrong with OE Toyota parts, although it is expensive. Unfortunately, Denso aftermarket doesn't offer a radiator for this application (too old?). When you read negative reviews for aftermarket radiators, did you notice the brands? I ask because as @JohnGD mentioned, TYC is an option. I've used TYC products before (not a radiator) and the quality has been very good. I would expect a TYC radiator to fit just fine and to have good performance based on the reputation of that brand.

I am not familiar with TYC. I am not very familiar with radiators either. I have only changed two radiators in my life of 69 years old. Lucky me. I use Amazon a lot just for researching via reviews. We have Rock Auto and Auto Zone here but most mechanics shop at Napa since the counter people are much more knowledgeable. Here is the site which had the negative reviews but there were few commenters. You can look at the reviews. Good luck on your search. My truck is in winter storage now. Can not wait for spring. It is a keeper and was originally purchased by my dad. Take care.

Both my Toyota trucks ultimately became hard to shift. Replacing the shifter bushing made it shift like new. Here is a good site to book mark for the part:
