New owner of a 2020 highlander hybrid xle with 22k miles. Loving it so far however the xle doesn’t have a 12v rear accessory outlet. I would like to put one in and wondering if higher trims have an outlet (other than the inverter plug) either in the cargo area or 3rd row. It appears I will need outlet part number 85530 and cover 85535. However I don’t know exactly if/where the factory one is installed. I see a couple “blank cover” areas in the trim that could possibly fit a power outlet. Kids in the 3rd row would appreciate plugging in their devices on long trips. My wife insists that it look “professional” and not one of the ones from Amazon. I’ve used the Amazon ones to put on side by sides and tractors that screw from the back. I assume the factory one will clip into place. I can run wires from the battery pretty easily since it’s in the back. Any assistance is appreciated.

Yes. Thank you for those links, I believe I have already read them before. I’m not concerned about having it switched on, constant power is fine for what I will use it for and just basic wiring directly to battery with an inline fuse is acceptable to me. My question is if there is a “factory” spot that higher trim levels have that I can retrofit, albeit, not at the factory spec of possibly switched power. Does, say, a platinum have a 3rd row or cargo area 12v outlet from the factory? If so, what is the placement?

Thank you again for any help you can provide.

Wiring directly will kill the battery the first time you forget something there. You'll say it will never happen... and it will. I did kill batteries in the past and it is not fun. You should switch it with a relay activated by the ignition. I'd recomment ignition-no2 fuse with add-a-circuit fuse tap.

I second this. For the effort and added cost it takes to do it right, it's a no brainer. Just picture having to jump your car at the worst opportune time - in the woods, no other cars around, no jumper cables, and it's pouring ran or snowing. A relay, fuse tap, and wiring will cost you about $20-30.
