Rear Bumper Help

1317 Views 13 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  myming
hello all,

i'm going to sell my 2004 tacoma.

something dropped on my left rear bumper (i wasn't in it at the time).
the black vinyl cover of that part is ok.
the bumper dent is about 1/2" in depth (v-shaped) and 10" wide.
it's rusting no matter what i do - it's time for boat varnish...lol.

does anyone have a new one or does anyone live in southern orange county, california that could fix it ?

thank you

See your local Toyota dealer, and order a new bumper.

I just ordered a bumper from Autoparts Warehouse. I had good service, fast shipping, and the price seemed reasonable for the bumper and brackets and shipping.

Hadn't posted yet because I won't open the box until Monday.

If your bumper rusted, check the rest of your frame. My bet is it spread from your frame to your bumper.

thank you for responding.
i don't think (as far as i can see) it spread anywhere other than the bumper itself, but i'll check again.
thnx again.
I thought I'd read in some other forums about some newer Sequoias that had rusting bumpers. I read so many posts I can't be sure now. Let's hope it's not your frame, but I think that you're still entitled to a free undercoating if you can get it done before 10/20/2010.

I'll be hunting for a can of rustcoating to put on this new bumper before or right after its installed.
Thanks,
Greg

what's this about the undercoating ?
tomorrow's the 20th...
Check this link. http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=238100

I think you've got until October 20. Frame rust is a really big problem. It'd be better to undercoat before you have any problems.

i got so freaked that i emailed toyota...
i'll check the link you sent - THANK YOU.
the link says that only trucks from 1995-00 are getting this.
mine's a 2004...
Hah! You made me look, too! The easiest thing to do is find a dealer and let them initiate the service since they get paid for it. Seeing you're in CA, it makes sense you wouldn't see any rust! ;-)

It might not be necessary or even available in your state. I didn't see your location until now.

Thanks,
Greg

I think 2004 has been added. Mine is 2002, and I had it done. There are essentially two programs. There was a buyback program for older models, and there's undercoating for "newer" models.

i should just call a local dealer ?
Yes, call your local dealer to see if you can get your frame inspected. If your truck was brought brand new in Cali, your frame will look pretty much pristine as did mine, so you won't have to worry about it rusting.
