I just purchased an 07 Tacoma, 4x4 TRD etc...it has the rear differential locking option. I can not get the rear differential lock to engage. I tried switching to 4 Lo, then switching, tried 4 Lo, moved forward, stopped, put in neutral, then diff lock, etc...no matter what I try, the diff lock indicator light flashes.

What am I doing wrong?

make sure u r in 4lo. u know if the 4wd light is on and nothing is beeping. then when ur stop, push the dif lock button and drive for a little bit. usually a few feet. it should lock, if not try going into reverse. it usually help if u r in some sand or dirt or something softer than pavement

Mine is a real pain in the butt too. When you put it into 4 lo and then engauge the locker, if it is still blinking, turn the truck off and then back on again and it will usually enguage it for you. At least that is what I do to mine and irt works. And so I can sound like a broken record, this is why I hate not having a manual transfer case on this truck!!! Toyota screwed the pooch and that big time!!!

I ran into the same problem when my truck was new the first few times I engaged the locker. Now it goes in and out just fine. As stated before make sure your actually in 4lo, then try turning the wheels a little bit as you move either forward or back. That was the trick for me when it was new.

+1  Shift to 4lo, hit the diff lock button, then roll slowly forward with your steering wheel turned a bit. It's getting one rear tire turning a little more than the other that gets the locker to engage quickly.
