Rear end is leaking, possibly from where third member attached to axle housing. Gasket is cheap around 5 bucks. Havent looked at my repair book yet. Any comments or things I should know before tackling the job? Wants to put in gears and a Detroit locker, but no money at this time so just putting in a new gasket and what ever needs to be changed. Just doing little mods like putting in a breather hose. Thank you for any comments and views, you guys are the best.

Yes, get the gasket and put it in. You might as well while you have it apart.

Clean both mating surfaces very well, use carb cleaner or brake cleaner (no oily residue). Put a very thin coat of RTV on both sides of the gasket.

This is the first time taking the rear end apart, never changed bearings. Was thinking of doing the bearings too. Just want to get the whole thing down so when I do it i'll have the parts. But according to you folks the seals should be enough with changing the third member gasket. Thanks guys for your quick replies.
