To swap a Blacktop 20v into my AE86, should i get a eletric ignition or shold i find a dizzy re-location kit? i dont want to beat up the firewall, i want to keep it lookin clean. Also is there a way to get the thermostat houseing away from the firewall side, i.e. putting on a RWD 16v water pump on it? If not then i doesnt matter i can live with the stat being there.

im doing the same swap only with a s/t. go ahead and chop a little piece out of the firewall to keep the dizzy on it, much easier on you. also, yes the 16v pump fits however the pulley setups are different so make sure your pulley routes are lining up. also, as far as the wiring swap... no the sr5 one will not work. get any blacktop wiring harness and make sure its as complete and uncut as it can be. also, make sure you get the blacktop ecu for whichever transmission you have

Whatever you do get the right wiring harness, don't try to cut and paste the existing harness on your car or else you'll take forever trying to get your engine working.

If you dont' want to bang or cut your firewall then get a dizzy relocation kit.

you have to combine the two harness, a blacktop harness isnt just going to plug into your car...

why would he need to have the blacktop ecu for the tranny he has, considering the blacktop came with the c56, c160 and automatic transaxles, and hell be using a t50 transmission...

try to get a manual transmission ecu, but you can use an automatic ecu as well by omitting some wires.

well yeah i was planning to get the complete harness with ECU for the blacktop, i just wanted to know if i could splice into the SR5 harness to make the engine run, or if it would be easier if i used a AE92 gts harness and spliceing into it, i know that the SR5 harness wouldnt work and that the blacktop harness doesnt plug in, how much would i be looking at for a re-location kit or would it be cheaper to get coil-packs and run the engine off that, or would that take ecu re-programming?

nick, someday come to my place and ill show you what you have to do to make a 20V/4ac harness, so it makes more sense to you.

dizzy relocation kits are expensive, around 600$ usually, and they come with everything, including custom wires.

to run a DLI/coilpack ignition, the easiest thing to do would be to get a megasquirt, and run a ford EDIS4 ignition. you cant run coil packs on the stock ecu. that setup would run you between 300-500$ approx. and youd get a basic standalone setup for less than the price of teh dizzy relocator.
