I have a '94 4x4, V6 3.0l with 245K miles. After noticeable power loss and unburned fuel smell from the exhaust, I took it in and was told that I have lost compression in the #1 & #2 cylinders. They suspect Ill need a head job. If Im going to fork over lots of cash at this point, I'd rather just do a rebuild to avoid another trip in 6 months. So my question is this, does anyone know of a good place that would do the work in Southern California? I would like to keep the same block and just get it rebuilt and not have to do the swapping thing.

Thank

I can't help you on a rebuild place, but the head gaskets on these engines are the subject of a recall. You should check to see if the job has been done. You may be able to get a free replacement. Call Toyota or a dealer with your VIN, and they can tell you if the head gasket recall has been done.
It actually wasnt a recall I dont think. I believe it was just a service campaign to repair a head gasket failure for up to 8 years/100,000 miles.
I won't debate the scope of the head gasket issue. Why let opinion close the option? It does not hurt to ask.
V06 Recall Info

I work for Toyota in SoCal. Send me your Vin# and I will let you know if you need the recall and help you arrange getting it fixed. I hope that helped, John [email protected]
