I've rebuilt tons of motors of all kinds and sizes. Every one I have did I raise hell with as soon as I put it together with a ZERO failure rate. It is my opinion that break in procedures are for the birds!! besides that, if it is going to fail, it is better that it does it before you put youre tools away!!!!

Don't drive it like you stole it first of all. With a rebuilt motor I like to drive them for about 500 km then change the oil, drive another thousand then change it and then go to my regular oil change schedule. The reason for this is that since everything is fresh you will have metal being removed as you drive and things wear into place. So you want to get rid of any metal because it could potentially cause damage.

Well being a 3ee off course i want Gas mileage and longevity out of it. I want it to last forever u know.

From what i read online and the HAYNES manual.

  1. I should use regular oil, non synthetic.
  2. I should do multiple compression turns and then run it for first time, then do compression check.
  3. Then drive it up to 50 miles and then stop with engine till 30 x REPEAT 50 times
  4. Then drive it nice and well, for first 1000 miles.

I will change oil many times during this. Thanks Pwner. Let me know if im missing anything, or any suggestions i would really appreciate em!

Is that the bulk of it? The motor i purchased is a remanufactured overstock ATK engine from eBay, The manufacturer site is: http://www.atkvege.com/content/
Here is eBay link i dont know if it will work. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120544750913&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT

I will let you know how it works. Also my Exhaust pipe was actually broken it half apparently... but that's another story...'

Thanks again for the replies.

That's crazy. A simple break in is for the first 500 miles don't use more than 1/3 throttle and at highway speeds instead of holding steady speed flex from 50-60. Change oil after first 100 and again at 500. After that drive normally.

Car runs well but Bumps a bit on acceleration...

Is that the RINGS not set in yet?

or did i mess up disributor timing?

I timed distributor on the mark, and moved the harmonic balancer to 10 mark, and then put the distributor in, car accelerates well and holds peed.

Its an ATK remanufactured 3EE, total is $684 with shipping. It arrived in like 6 days, by truck.

It works ok, jitters a bit while accelerating slow... is that the rings? Not broken in yet? I did like 50 miles today :D
