get one at any local parts store... they are all pretty much the same except it may have more functions like alarm and such. I know for a fact that advanced auto carries them for like 80 buxs (it has a few xtras)

 toronto north... that's cute!

anyways, my cheapo walmart 80$ remote starter is working great, pretty much need line of sight for it to work, but that's perfect for me
picked mine off ebay with a whole new alarm, its got somewhere like a 1/4 mile direct range, keeps me entertained
personaly i wouldnt buy one from walmart and ther others places.. the reason for this is i was in a parting lot with a friend he hit the remote to blow the horn and not only his horn was going of but someone eles.. so we try hiting the lights,... same thing.. after talking to some people about this we found out that the radio band that those Cheep (not that im calling anyone cheep... even i buy from walmart) remotes use are very small so some of them are on the same radio band.
Toronto is the North for many US ppl.........

Anyways, as for frequency, I know that all starters and anything remote for short range personal uses the same frequency range. This is from the government. But each one should have a different key inside so that it only respond to one remote. Just like the remote garage door openers.

Anyways, I got an automatic, u think I can install it myself properly?
I have an Autopage RS-750 LCD and I am very happy with it. I think it has about a 1/4 transmitting range and a 1/2 receiving range. Wasn't very expensive and it is very easy to install on a camry. I've installed four times. Not bad. Just get the wire colors for your car online and you're good.
I have a Prestige APS 996A with the 2-way LCD remote & it works great. I can cool my car off a couple of degrees so it isn't over 100 when I get in here in FL. The 2-way remote is also nice to check if I remembered to lock the doors or to see if a door was left open. I got mine from E-bay and had it installed by a local shop for around $300 US for everything.
Someone once told me that remote starters aren't good for the engine. They kill the life of your engine. Is it true?
^^ Nope never heard that it kills the engine if it's auto...

I'm gonna get one installed... it's another thing that's just sitting in the box... Hopefully I'll get it done by winter
yeah... I have to do it before winter ...... can right now, at my work, I can see my car directly............. I can't even imagine how good it would be when I go out and the car is warm!
i was doing a little googleing.....and saw that some systems can use ur aftermarket stuff if you program it. I think i have an Audiovox Pursuit system(not sure cause we bought the car used) and theres an option button that doesnt do anything. Could that maybe be programed to remote start?

If so, any recomendations on what to buy
I used to work at a stereo/car accessory shop here in sauga. The best of the best remote starter is something called Compustar. Very pricy (anywhere from $350 for the hardware to $600, but $600 would include installation) but well worth the money. It has the best code hopping, the most options (ex, trunk release, LCD status, turbo timer, automatic cool off after u turn off the car etc). U can buy it either as a stand alone remote starter or for the $600, its an alarm/starter pager combo. Viper has a nice system called the Valet 750, same sort of stuff, but usually more money b/c its like the tommy hilfiger brand. The problem with the canadian tire/walmart brands is that the brain unit itself can interfere with the cars normal ignition habits, ie: overlong cranks, leads to misfires. DO NOT BUY AUTOPAGE, if anyone here has one that works great u should put it in a shrine because it would prolly be the only one!!!

LMK what u decide to buy and either I can install it for you, or i read someone else up there who has installed 4, thats pretty decent experience.

PS: if your gonna attempt by yourself, a site called directechs.com should have the wiring diagrams/schematics for your car

That option button is more likely for an automatic trunk release, some can even roll down the windows for you, but no, I doubt it would be for starting, but some manufacturers (not sure bout audiovox) do make the brains so that u can plug in more options, such as a remote starter.....u'd have to call them/ find a manual online for your model.
ok yeah i have no idea what it is but all that the car does is lock/arm unlock/disarm so i have 2 free buttons(trunk and option)
oh, if you have a trunk AND option button then u can probably put a remote starter on it. But u may still need to buy the hardware and chances are it would have to be audiovox.
yeah and the range kinda sucks on it but oh well, maybe ill just wait till i get another car

Huh?? I guess I got a good one. I've never had any issues with mine. I've never heard anything bad about it. I wish I would have known that before I bought it.
Are these easy to install on stick?
