HI all,

I have a 94 Camry, and one feature I miss is having keyless entry. I was going to put a remote central locking kit in the Camry, although do I also need to buy a master actuator to put on one or both of the front doors?

Since the Camry has the lock / unlock button in the centre console, can I just use this switch and wire it into the remote central locking kit?

The US version of the wiring diagram shows that there are two key wires that will lock and unlock the door locks... These are accessible at the Door Lock Control Relay... somewhere in the vicinity of the passenger side kick panel ... under the dash. If you have a center console, the wires are probably accessible here, too.
You will have to interpret this description in terms of the Australian Camry....
Basically, all you have to do to have a remote activated lock is ground these two wires, one at a time, as desired, using a suitable device.
If you have access to the online repair manual ... wiring diagram... the wires to be used can be seen on. p. 162 ... terminals 11 and 12 of the DLC relay... green and light green.
Does the kit that you have allow you to perform the required functions?

Im not sure if the run of the mill kits have this function. I just figured that any keyless system would just send a signal to the motor making the locks open and close.

The Gen 4 Camrys do have a wireless access circuit... which activates the door locks through the remote key pad.
However, the Gen 3 Camrys do not show this wireless circuit in the wiring diagram.
So, you will probably have to install some sort of receiver/actuator board ... something that is compatible with the remote keypad ... Shouldn't be too difficult to do though.

You can install keyless entry on any car with power locks. Just yesterday actually, I installed a Bulldog remote starter w/keyless entry system that I picked up for $30 from a liquidation store. The main thing I was after was the remote start. Took me about 3 hours. The remote start took most of the time though...the keyless entry part of the install took about 10 mins at the end of it all, just two additional wires.

So yeah, just pick up any old aftermarket system and install it. Unless you want something with more features... I actually just installed this one for the time being. I have one I have to take out of my old car which is a two-way car alarm, I just cant seem to find enough time...that one would be a lot more complicated, its got remote start, keyless entry, remote window/sunroof rollers, alarm, two way paging w/3000 foot range etc... That system was $140 at the same liquidation store. So yeah, it depends what your after and how much of the work your able to do on your own and what you want to spend.
