I recently had a Viper 160XVL remote starter installed at the local BestBuy and after 4 trips back to fix various glitches (windows wouln't work, radio disconnected, etc) they informed me that the factory alarm wasn't compatiable with the remote starter. So I can lock/unlock/ start it with the 160XVL fob but the factory alarm cannot be turned off or on with the same fob. Their answer was to carry the factory alarm fob and 160XVL fob and use both of them. Or find out the arm and unarm wires in the wiring harness. Then they would be able to connect the alarm to the 160XVL fob that locks/unlocks the doors. Anyone have any experiance with anything like this?

I just had the same Viper 160xvl installed on my 05 Tundra, and had to take it back three times now. Every time I pushed a button on the new viper fob it would set the alarm off, lock/unlock/start, and I couldn't turn it off until I put the key in the door to unlock it. I finally just had them completely disable the factory alarm. The installer said that it was one wire connected to the factory alarm that just needed to be disconnected. tell them to call the Best Buy in Loveland, CO.

I hate alarms, but I would still like the option of the truck to not start if its being broken into. Is there any way to disable the horn honking from the alarm?
