I had the Omega max-e alarm with remote starter installed on my truck, plus i added the 2-way paging upgrade with the lcd remote. Of course i had it installed and spent $600 total. I wouldn't recommend spending that to anyone, instead i would suggest if you know a friend with a business license to have that person contact a local distributor for your region and order it and only spend under 200 bucks for it. Now with our trucks you do lose one of your keys cause they have to install an immobilizer.

I'd love a remote starter, but you can't install one with a STICK shift! My Toyota dealer said it's illegal. Same reason you can't override the clutch start switch. It would be dangerous if you left the truck in gear (as many do) and remote-started it... can you say run-away Taco?

There are remote starters that will work safely with stick shifts. They have wiring and sensors that can tell if the truck is in gear and if the emergency brake is On.

My CompuStar 2WSS-AS alarm/remote starter will work with a manual trans and also a diesel with glow plugs.

It has awesome range, 6000 feet. It was really cold today and I started the truck from inside a steel building that is 600 yards away from where I parked. The truck was nice and toasty when I got in it. It has a 2-way system that will page you if your truck is being messed with, and you can check the truck's status at any time.

I have remote start on my truck too. I like it. But I heard that if remote start is not good for the vehicle. I don't know why, that is just what I heard.

It is a very nice feature. In the moring when it's cold or raining out side, I can start the truck in my room without going to the garage or outside the house.

I paid 600 or 650 installed, Prestige (sp?) LCD page alarm.

I have an viper 791xv, installed for 3 months so far, gave up a key for the transponder unit 555u i think. ran into some problems yesterday when the remote start woudl just crank and not start, the transponder had some problems I think the ring got loose around the ign. fixed it though, remote starts are great for the morning.

the BEST way to warm up your vehicle, from a wear and tear standpoint, is to start it up, and within about 15-20 seconds, start driving with a light foot. remote starters can be fairly handy, but i'll probably pass on ever getting one. also, i really don't feel like messing with factory wiring in my brand new pickup. :)

Just got a DEI remote start installed for 204$, everything included. It's definitely a plus to get into a warm truck on a cold morning. Plus it's fun to toy with people that don't know you can start your car from a remote location.:naughty:

It retails for close to $500, but I got one brand new from a dealer on Ebay for $230, and then the install was another $250. Seems like a lot of $, but CompuStar is fairly top of the line stuff. Super long range and tons of features, especially if you want to control auxilary stuff like windows, neon, stereo, etc. I really love the LCD 2-way paging remote.

If you live in a super cold climate you can also program it to automatically start the engine every 4 hours to keep the battery charged.
