I need to be "Mr. Obvious" here. I need to test my alternator. OK, I know how to do that. However, I need to remove the grey hard plastic cap on the power terminal without breaking it. The cap doesn't appear to just pull off like rubber ones do and I would rather not break it by prying on it. How do you remove this type of cover?

Thx in advance.

Not what you want to hear, but I never found a way to remove it without prying on it and mine broke in half. I went to Toyota to get a new one and the parts guy said they don't even make a replacement bc it's mainly there just to keep someone from touching anything to that terminal(he even showed me the screen and it wasn't there). For what it's worth, I've been driving mine without that cap for two years and have had zero issues arise because of it.

As google didn't supply me with an answer to this I had to work this one out myself. The extension along the cable on mine wasn't actually joined underneath but this should still work if yours is. If you grip the extension close to the round nut cover bit and pry apart the underside slightly while pushing the cap towards the terminal the cap will magically release. After all the unsuccessful poking and prodding I had done with screw drivers expecting to here the sound of cracking plastic this simple action unclipped it with surprising ease.
