'97 5SFE. Want to take a peek behind the cover to see if the cam seal or anything is leaking behind there. What's the easiest way?

Do I need to move the alternator and engine mount bracket? Also, do I need to remove the #3 cover right next to the block to see any leaks? Thanks.

There are two timing belt covers, upper and lower.

The top timing belt cover is held on by about 3 bolts. It might be possible to reach around the engine mount to remove this cover. This will allow you to inspect the cam seal and upper timing belt. The dog bone engine mount can be easily removed along with its U-shaped mounting bracket attached to the engine mount.

To inspect the oil pump and crank seal the lower timing cover needs to be removed. This requires removing the crankshaft pulley, engine mount bracket and about 5 bolts holding the cover in place.
