Replaced 88 Corolla motor with 86

Replaced my girl friends motor in a hurry Christmas day with a spare 86 4A motor we had. The problem being the 88 had AC and extra bits on carbureta. Now motor idles fast and thermo fans operate non stop. Any advise would be appreciated as we plan to go to Tassie on the ferry 2/01.
