I am looking into using JBL GX328 speakers in the dash locations. Could be a tight fit, I will let you know if I am successful and also sound improvement, if any.

I did install the JBL GX328 speakers in the dash locations on my 2012 Highlander Hybrid. The install did require removing quite a bit of plastic material in the original cavity to allow the speakers to sit low enough in the cavity. The original screw holes could not be used. I used self tapping screws to anchor the speaker on each side. With the original dash covers in place you cannot see any cosmetic difference. The sound from the GX328 speakers was outstanding and well balanced with the front door speakers. Sound controls in the menu setting were also closer to neutral, with the treble centered and the mid centered. The plastic removal was accomplished with a dremel tool and small hacksaw blade, I think a better method would have been to remove the dash but did not want that hassle.
