Hey everyone, I recently bought a 2013 Corolla S, the stock stereo is the touchscreen 86140-02150 Panasonic unit, now I want to buy a new head unit online that looks seamless when installed and has more functions.
BUT when i contact the sellers they tell me their units have different harness inputs and they are not compatible with my cables.
I can't afford to have someone install it for me and i need to DIY it all the way.
Can someone help me understand why the cables of a head unit that has been designed for my car wouldn't be compatible with it? or is there a way to get around the issue buy getting a converter or something? i don't want to cut the factory wires.

here's my stock dash:

here is my current head unit:

The first one looks different than the one in your car. I'm not aware of any different wiring from 09-13. Here's one that says it will fit from 09-13 Corollas.

Strange that your 13 has no steering wheel controls as my 09 Corolla S has them.

Oh mine does too, that picture is not my actual car, i just included it to show the kind of HU i have, mine looks like that but doesn't have nav. from the outside it looks like they should have the same wiring from 2007-2013 but someone told me in 2012 - 2013 the Telematics are different. i have no idea how to make sure the head units that i see online will be compatible with my connections.
if fact the one that you linked was the first seller i contacted, i sent them pictures of my dash and the wiring and they told me my car's power plug does not fit their unit.

Yours look great! I want a look exactly like that, i don't like the aftermarket look of other HUs like Kenwood or Pioneer, it'd be awesome if i can find one that looks like your HU and fits my car. i looked for harness adapters too but couldn't find anything that looked right to me :/

Welcome to the Nation :) Please link the unit you are talking about? Lots and lots of options for stereo's.
thank you! here're a couple of examples of what i'm looking for:

I have the same unit in my 2013 corolla I feel that installing a tablet would be a better way to go and there are enough mods out here that you could install it without uninstalling the factory radio the only problem I see would be power and insuring that it remains cool in the summer and warm in the winter...just my opinion

I am looking at this unit also (EONON) but I am worried about the quality of a Chinese product, this price seems too good for what you are getting. Do any forum members have this unit installed?

I finally install my new headunit:

I also added the back up camera at the same time. Right now I am quite happy with the unit though the operating manual is junk it is easy to figure out. The Nav system is based on Kudos maps and seems fairly accurate (anyone know how to update the maps using the mirco card) and the rest of the menus are easy to operate if not a little laggy on press.

The steering wheel volume controls do not work, but that is the installer being lazy I think and having forgot to order the correct harness.

Let me know if you have questions regarding the unit.

I have a Corolla LE 2010. I installed one of those Chinese brand navi/bluetooth/radios (the Pumpkin for $246) and I've had it for a month now. The bluetooth has to be paired every time I walk into my car when it use to do it automatically. The GPS is ok but not great. It has lead me in the wrong direction or lead me close to the desired location. I don't have steering controls so I bought the Metra steering remote which SHOULD connect with the radio. I had two reputable companies try to connect it with the Pumpkin and both installers failed. They both said it's this cheap radio which I believe because the buttons feel cheap to the touch.

I just bought an expensive Pioneer. I believe I will have better luck with the Metra steering remote since it works with Kenwood, Pioneer and other high-end brands. In the beginning, I was not pleased with the look of these brands, and that's why I went for the Pumpkin.

I was IN LOVE with my Pumpkin until now. I programmed it to display the Toyota symbol when I turn on the car. It fits perfectly into dash without a frame, it has buttons on each side giving my dash more of a mechanical look. It was perfect! I'm sending it back to Amazon. :(

Do you know your specific model number? The best way to be certain is to remove the radio and look on the back. If it can be expanded to use a backup camera, it would be labeled on the back of the head unit.

I found this Panasonic unit on EBay back in 2013 and bought it for $250 CAD. Its got everything...Nav, BT,steering wheel controls, rear camera...and there was no special wire needed. Just took out factory unit and installed this plug n play unit......best $250 ive ever spent.

I see. You will have to check with Toyota retailers online to see if it's available. If this same unit was used in other Toyotas or Lexi, then you might be in luck. Otherwise, an upgrade could cost less than just the camera and harness.
YouTube shows a video but doesn’t tell you what harness they used
