So,

After the Motor mounts/clutch master, slave cylinders have been done, its been determined that my drivers side axle is too long. From what I know right now, I believe there is Corolla outers, Celica inners. I need alternatives now to ensure I have less length in the shaft. Please help, I need to figure something out ASAP. I don't know if the SW20 shafts are smaller, aw11 outers, etc.

Guy, just wondering if someone can help me out here, what figures are important on the outer CV when fitting stuff together, I know the teeth or spline count are obviously important, but what about the number of "gaps" as portrayed in these pics? One is from an AE92 sedan and one from a GTS...

I don't know much about cv axles, and how they fit. I was talking to a friend last night and he said basically if you have the inner joint in already, and the outer fitted, then it shouldn't be hard to find a shaft that works and fit them together, but I don't exactly know how it all fits together. I know that the the splines on the inner/outers work, but I am not sure how to fit the shaft. I won't personally be fitting them together, I have a mechanic that does any work I am not familiar with, Basicly I just need to know what I can use so I can look for shorter lengths.

If the Motor and Trans has been installed in the correct loc/con, I'm pretty sure that a stock aw11 s/c axle should work..... Has the same outer diameter and spline count as an ae92 and the E series in an SC car uses the same inner spline as the E150's.....

If you can get an overall measurement of your axle I can compare it to an s/c axle.

that being said, good luck finding one. They are neither easy to find nor cheap. I got very lucky and picked up my axles with E51 for around $400.. but that was 6 years ago or so.

This is what I got from Paul Woods (he is knowledgeable of the aw11 3s-gte swap, and has done the swap before in the aw11):

"Your post is very confusing, but if i read it right you are currently using celica gt4/alltrac axles?

These are 15mm longer each side than mr2 3sgte driveshafts,so if you fit the mr2 ones you will gain 15mm of freeplay in each side.If you are still needing more space on the drivers side (left hand side of the car,US) then you need to fit a camry v6 auto supported shaft + mr2 3sgte axle to the right side, the camry v6 shaft is 30mm shorter than an mr2 one,so this will let you relocate the engine up to 30mm towards the right of the car letting you have space for the left axle.

Id imagine the corolla has an identical track width to a mk1 mr2 though,so using mr2 3sgte axles should be all you need to do,providing of course the engine/trans is in the correct left/right location.

Hope that helps"

Just picked up a drivers side axle from a turbo MR2 today, we'll see how it fits as compared to the celica axle. I might just pick up a stub shaft from a V6 camry if I can find one for like 20 bucks, there is a few guys around town that are parting out camry's, both '88's. I just dont know if they have the V6 yet. But the worst part, finding a decent priced CV Axle from an MR2 turbo is done. I also picked up a new rad today. I can see light at the end of the tunnel now.

Never really got it sorted. I ended up selling the car, as the clutch was going in it, and I was still having axle issues, and motor mount issues.

I would like to buy another 92 in the future, when I have the cash, maybe next spring. I like hte car, I just think the 3s swap is a little too much. It's a lot of work, and you've got to have so much time you can devote to it, something I just didnt have anymore. I got a 99 Explorer sport I am cruising in for now...haha. Moving across the country perhaps, so it's probably a good thing to have right now.

Wow! Sorry to hear that.
I was hoping that you would have gotten all the bugs sorted out in that mod. It is something I was thinking of doing myself later on.
It doesn't seem that anyone actually has one running, that has published it.

Oh well.

Good luck on the move.

Well if you do end up moving this way and are looking for a good GTS, mine is always a possibility. :)
