PT, I remember a thread in which we were throwing around some ideas for bed lighting. I like what you've found here. I would like to see what the actual lights look like to get an idea of their quality and to decide how to mount them under the rails.

I also agree with you that a battery-powered solution just doesn't cut the mustard. And I'm not sure how white LED lights in the bed would qualify as "ricey."

Something like that would definitely work for mounting the LED tubes. If the included mounting straps/clips aren't long enough or the hole isn't big enough, it would be very easy to fabricate a better fitting version.

Don't knock it! I think the music flash option will come in very handy for the late night tailgate beach parties. :naughty:

And don't even talk to me about income taxes. I stayed out of that thread because it just depresses me. I'll be lucky if I don't have to pay over $4k this year.

I'll definitely give it a shot if I can get a little more information:

1. What is the diameter of the tubing? I wouldn't want anything with a real large profile that would get hit loading or unloading stuff into the bed (this would be one nice thing about the rope lights).

2. I'd like to see a picture of the wiring harness to judge the quality.

Have you talked to them PT?

nminute, it looks like a good clean install, and I agree that you're probably not going to have any problems with cargo hitting it. Did you use just the one bracket in the middle of each LED strip for mounting?

Also, I'm guessing from your wiring diagram and the low current draw in LED applications that you were able to avoid using a relay. Since your power is coming directly from the battery, it looks like you can turn the lights on even with the ignition turned off. If that's the case, are you worried about leaving them on by accident? I was a little paranoid about that, especially with my tonneau cover, so I wired mine so that I could only turn them on with the ignition.

CBRBob from customtacos had a clean sey up too. He got these LED strips from ebay and used 3M tape to stick it under the railings. He also put some under his hood.
The hood lights turn on when the hood gets propped open.

I'm going to be doing this mod soon also. LEDs are just kind of expensive.

Thanks to CBRBob
I already installed my own bed lights last month (backup lights mounted in the storage cubbies with DPDT switch in the dash and a pin switch in the tailgate), but the LEDs under the hood are a simple but fantastic idea. I'm definitely going to add these. Thanks for the link and thanks to CBRBob.

PT, correct me if I'm wrong, but those Striplytes that CBRBob used look a lot better than anything else I've seen online in terms of size, profile, output, and quality. Unfortunately, they only sell on ebay in 6 packs. I'm probably going to go ahead and get some for under my hood. Anybody want to split the purchase with me and take some or all of the other four?
