Hi all, Im looking to buy a set of roof rails for an 08 Highlander. Here in Australia, the base model has no roof rails at all.

Does anyone know where I can buy them? Thanks.

I had the guy in Toyota spare parts tell me that the roof isnt strong enough on our base model for the roof rails. - Somehow I find this hard to believe, I cant imagine that Toyota Japan, make one Highlander model roof to a lower spec than all the others? Especially when I hear we have have the only right-hand drive Highlanders (Klugers as they call them here) in the world.

Surely it would cost Toyota more money to make one roof for one market differently?

If your roof has a grove along the edge with a black plastic filler strip you probably have the mounting holes for the side rails.

If your roof is smooth all the way across you are probably out of luck.

If the first statement is true you probably would need to order the rails for a KX-S or Grande depending on the color you wanted.

You would need the side rails with end caps, a new filler strip, and cross rails to complete the job

Looking at the Aussie Toyota site there is a option for a Aero roof rack for models without the rails.

The Brush Guard looks great as well.

Thanks Summerwind, the model Im buying (pictured above) DOES have the black strips on the roof. Now, Im trying to find a place that sell the actual rails.

I would prefer to have them than buy the 'non roof rail' roof rack if possible.

Thanks.

Next step would be to get a sales person to pry up the end of one of the black strips to see if the mounting holes are really there.

Finding a more knowledgeable parts guy would help as well. There should be no reason a Toyota parts department can not order Toyota parts!!

Sounds like the one you talked to didn't want to take the time and look up the parts from the other models.

Getting your sales person to sell you the parts at dealer cost as part of the deal would be worth asking for as well.

After you price out the cost of adding the rails to a base model you might want to compare the cost to a KX-S with the rails.

The cost difference may not be that great.

Good luck..

Hi Guys, I dont know if the nerf bar (we call it a nudge bar here for some reason) and the hood protector (bonnet protector) is available in the States.

I can tell you, the nerf bar is around $673 USD and the hood protector; $92 USD

Keep in mind, Australia is basically the worlds largest island :) All of our imports come at a premium due to distance.

Don't think so.

Might show the picture to your Dealer parts guy and ask if they can get it from Toyota of Australia.

When I had a 06 RAV4 one of the hot things to add was the Canadian side molding. My dealer ordered them for me from Toyota of Victoria, BC.

I would imagine the shipping cost would be a but much.

The price I quoted was fitted BTW, you can get them cheaper than that.

If you guys ever want to do a bulk-buy of some sort, let me know. Im happy to arrange getting the nerf bars sent over to the U.S.

Any chance you can post the part number for the Aussie nerf bar kit??

Would help with exploring options for purchase for those that are interested.

Here it is, bear in mind, its referred to as a nudge bar here;

T PZQ29 48030 SP-ORD ALLOY NUDGE BAR

Price quoted (without fitting) come to roughly $646 USD but you might be able to shop around. Particularly if you guys organise a group-buy or something.

Just to be clear, the whole nudge bar in front of the vehicle, including the black plastic and horizontal bars, is all one piece. I like it as many of the aftermarket nudge bars only come to halfway up the grille. This one can be seen from the drivers position and help you gauge the distance from say a brick wall (if you dont have front clearance sensors.)
