Rubber burning smell

Beginning this winter, my 1995 corolla started having some issues with starting and with slow idle speed. Sometimes, when I started the car, it would die after a few seconds. Other times, it would run, but the idle speed would be very slow.

Recently, I took it out for a longer drive, and I started to notice a rubber burning smell. It started to get stronger, and then white smoke started coming from the hood, at which time I had to pull over.

This particular car has been known to leak oil. I'm not sure if that is related to the current issues or if the slow idle speed is related to the burning and smoke. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

open the hood and check to see if you still have any belts on the car? it sounds like something locked up and your belt is smoking past the locked up pulley.
