hey guys, i have a problem. a guy @ my job(lipton toyota) is selling his 92 sc300 auto for $2500, he says that he got it a few monhs ago for 2500 and has spent over $1000 on maintenance and bringing it back to life. he says it runs perfect and the only reason he's selling is b/c he just bought a tc and needs money for slight mods and a new toolbox. my problem is that i have a 99 camry in beyond excellent condition w/ 160,000 miles, she runs beautifully, all she needs is a new starter but other than that she is flawless. i have to sell it in order to get this sc but im second guessing giving up my baby for 3500 when she's worth 5600. and not to mention the sc is 15 yrs old. i haved major plans for the cam and i have already started but the sc has so much potential. id appreciate feedback from you guys and hope i make the right decision.

get that sc and swap the motor and turbo psshh, you could even manual swap it if you want. Almost a supra go for it :p, unless ur using ur car for like hauling people and junk then maybe not...

SC300's are slow as Christmas, very overweight & blah handling wise
Camry v6, or ES 300 of the same timeframe rapes them in ever hole they wanna take it in.

If it aint an SC400 I'm sorry.... It's a big waste 'cause it's not an SC400. Too little extra money to gain way better trim & a way better engine.

damn you guys waste no time responding, thanks! i apprecxiate all of your feedbacks and i know exactly what to do to make the sc move and be sexy while doing it, anda also know what to do to the cam to make it move and look like a tourer while doing it. the only problem is selling it to people who are staying w/ me for 3500. idk time will tell. by tuesday wednesday ill let you know what i decide. thx

Selling a Camry shouldn't be a problem at all. How many miles does the SC have though? Typically in my experience, when a car has had a ton of maintenance done to it, it means that it is not necessarily a lemon...but a car with much maintenance needed.

Exactly... personally Im suprised no-one has mentioned anything about the circumstances, he has bought the car recently and is now selling it - ALARM BELLS (What he said about needing money could merely be an excuse). On top of this, he has done 'maintenance' (For all you know, maintenance is actually trying to fix a terminal problem)... and the fact he has spent $1000 may back this up, and is suspect because no-one pours $1000 into a car and then sells it for the same price as they bought it!!!!!!!! Wouldnt you think that if he bought it cheap for $2500 cos it didnt run or ran poorly, he could at the very least sell it for more once he has fixed it!?!

Just my opinion! And maybe a note, was a good idea to come here for more opinions... but be wary of clouded judgements, many a person has falling victim to a lemon because it looked nice and shiny.

indeed, the deal might have catches.but toys... not to pick a fight, but i beg to differ, the camry VS. SC, your right about the weight control, indeed camrys have the edge Weight-wise, but when comparing performance, the SC300 is the hot twin sister of the Supra, just less whored out, lol

i actually think the camry is a lot more limiting being a family sedan. i agree once booted its a fast car, but dont forget, its fwd, over 3000 lbs. and very limited in aftermarket parts, believe me its not like im de-grading camrys or anything, just that the platform limits us performance wise.

pardon my rambling, im just very psyched on gettin an SC300. im open to any opinions on the matter =)

id have to go with the crowd on this one. i want a supra in the worst way. but if i could get nearly the same platform and performance potental for thousands of dollars less than the supra, id be hard pressed not to get one. how much of a differance is there between the two ne ways? aside from the engine options.

I wouldn't say that he camry would rape the sc300 by any means, but unless it's an sc400, there's no point of trading your car in for it if you have any doubts at all. especially not for an auto sc300- you'll get laughed at

and sure, a swap....but then again, why not just do the "3sgte swap" in the camry then? the man's talking about car to car

Agreed. The Camry V6 and the SC300 are about the same performance wise. I have checked the specs before in the past. I would keep the Camry if you're satisfied with it.

According to Consumer Guide, the SC300 does 0-60 in 7.9 seconds, which is nearly identical to the V6 Camry. The SC400 is capable of 6.6 times.

change of story, now the guy is telling me that he wants to keep it, in a way im relieved that i did not pass up another sc but the camry really is the car for me. within the week ill just let one of the techs in the shop install my trd springs in the meantime. then put on my m45 mid pipe and muffler, soon after get tires to put on the 06 avy 17"s that are sitting in my room, then save up for 3s and brake conversion! i really appreciate the comments guys and i have taken them into consideration and i wont bother giving up this camry it's really a gem in my book.

Yeah I question my Camry quite often. There are a few cars that I really want to get my hands on (GLI VR6, Celica all-trac, 2.5RS, MR2 turbo). I'm 99% sure that I'm going to put my car up for sale on Carsoup.com or autotrader.com for quite a bit of money to see if anyone bites. I will be selling it at $5,995 or maybe $6,500. The KKB suggested retail price was $5,150 and I have put a few thousand dollars into it.

You wont question the Cmary when your fast(er) car isn't as reliable or gets terrible gas mileage or just doesnt ride the same  thats my boat!
