Is it true Scion works like Saturn and charges a 'fixed price' for the cars, and doesn't have dealer markups, hold-backs, and all that fun stuff to play with? As in, you see the tC for $17k on the web site, you will PAY $17k for it? Not a lot more or less?

I just found out my dealer wants $28-30k for a 05 WRX, but you can get them for like $23k from them

It's called pure price. Just like saturn. I can't even get a discount and I sell the cars. I do however get 150 bucks for selling it to myself. There really isnt that much profit in the car anyways.

Cool (I guess...) - I know the average Scion leaves the dealer with something like $2k in parts, and thats profit right there.

I know when we bought our 2001 Subaru Outback, they tried to attach about $1,500 worth of shit to it ($500 for WINDOW ETCHINGS, $500 to take the plastic bags off the seats, etc.), and my dad told them to cram it, and they did. They knew it was a scam for what was probably a few hours of labor.

Will we have to repete that episode, or can I actually get a Scion tC for $17k before tax/registration? You know the answers ;)

Your Scion purchase should be very easy and straightforward. You can know all the numbers before you even get to the dealership. Just go to www.scion.com and build your tC It shows you what your payments would be depending on your credit and the way you want your car equipped. Keep in mind that you need to add 10% to the total price to include your tax, lic., reg. and fees.

Coolness, if thats the case, it makes the deal even better!

I still cannot believe how much the Subaru dealer tried to markup its cars

Hmm. So that's cool on one hand, but kind of sucky on the other. Cool because you don't get a lot of crap expenses tacked on, but bad because you can't really play dealerships off each other to get a lower price...

So that $17k is msrp then? How's that compare to invoice price? Not that you could get invoice on the first year of a new car model like that, but still it's nice to know.

The msrp for the 5spd is 16,465 this includes delivery, processing and handling fee. The auto is 17,265. The tC comes monospec, which means there is no upgraded model(le,xle,se). The only option from the factory is side airbags with side curtain airbags. I believe it is like an additional 500-600$. There is about 800 dollars of profit in the vehicle.

You were being facetious with that comment, right?  I've never thought that you would have to pay someone to take plastic bags off a chair.....
It was the dealer prep - so probably an hour or two of work by someone making less than $10 an hour. Just getting the car ready to sell - $500 is hardly a fair price, maybe $100 at the most, or just INCLUDE it - that would be like buying a TV and being charged $50 for a 'in-store handling fee' or something like that.

The dealer prep is included in the msrp. It is part of the delivery/proccessing/handling fees. It's usually about 485.00 dollars. That is on the window sticker. If they added an addendum saying there are additional handling fees than that is wrong.

Here is what they (Subaru) did:

-Went in and wanted car.
-We asked if there was any other fees or anything, they said no.
-We get an hour into the paper work, and POP! They whip out a sheet with about $2,000 worth of BS fees and charges (to add to the price of the car)
-We tell them to shove it, and they did. Not only was it a scam, but they didn't mention it when we asked.

Not cool. I wonder how many people jsut said 'OK' and put $2,000 in the dealers pocket.

Well, I know the whole point of the Scion is for you to add TRD/Scion mods to the car, and hopefully dealer installed, but other stuff might be a tough call.

When your getting your tC at a dealership, go like "I see, but I can get it at Scion of -whatever- for $2k less," and walk out the door and see what happens.
A whole lot of laughing at you.:hammer:

:werd: - unless it had a salvage title

You guys are alright, I went to the Scion dealer (just made a post) and I was VERY impressed. He should call me when the tC's arrive.

I'm not all about kits and personalizing cars....I'm a lot more boring than that....but this tC DEFINITELY has my attention, straight out of the box. ;)

And I agree with kenratboy....I went to a Toyota dealership late last month to look for cars (had no idea what I wanted), and a rep sat me down, walked me through the tC brochure, and I've been sweating for it since.

(Just sucks I've had to keep waiting to get a new car and replace my piece of junk...hehe.)

Anyways, thumbs up on the pure pricing too....I definitely wasn't looking forward to haggling with anyone. Any idea how much I'll lose on it when I drive it off the lot? That's the one thing with pure pricing that I'm not sure about....

Welcome to the forum - you will soon be a slave to Toyota Nation

I just want to see if I fit in the car. I fit in a new Civic with a sunroof just fine. It is always a matter of a few inches, or less - never 6 inches of clearance. Either I will fit or I will not.

After that is out of the way (and if I fit), then I can get serious about the math - but first things first, I need to fit in the car!

I HATE being this tall.

Just HOW tall are you? Hehe... (Sorry if I overlooked that somewhere else...still trying to sift through all the posts on the site, wasting my work day away).

6'5 on a good day.

In my Camry, I have a few inches to spare on headroom (seat is NOT leaned back), and I scoot the seat foward about 4" so I have more leverage on the clutch (fucking heavy as hell compared to the Scion's!)
