Seeking the opinion of those working at Toyota dealerships.

Hi, I'm new here so go easy on me.

I'm currently a GM tech, though my current employer and I seem to have a fundamental disagreement on what constitutes ethical business practices. None of the other GM dealers around where I live impress me at all, So I have turned elsewhere. Next week I have interviews at a Toyota dealer and a Honda dealer. I am curious about what I can expect working at a Toyota dealer. I'm sure there are many Toyota techs on here, what have your experiences been in terms of training, pay, business ethics, warranty work, etc... If anyone also has Honda experience, you're insights would be appreciated.

I don't work at a dealer but also consider this is a dealership, shit is going to happen. Obviously if its way out of bounds then yes speak up but other cases...how would I know? I really don't but from observation of dealerships and the nature of the buisness don't expect everyone to be angels. Good luck!!
if you're fed up, just talk to other techs in your area and see what location seems to actually treat their techs right. maybe you'll get lucky and find one.

FYI, you're going to be abused in the industry...it's just how they are. you're expendable, and they'll always find someone to replace you. almost all of them don't care about you and what you want; they just want to bring in as much money as possible.

i know quite a few people who have been in the industry for decades, and this seems to be the unanimous feedback i get from them, regardless of brand affiliation.

Yes, it is discouraging. Most of my best friends are professional pilots; I used to be until the fucked-up nature of the biz got intolerable. I'm moving towards going into business for myself soon.

To me, it's more just the nature of being an employee than one's profession or vocation. Being an employee sucks no matter what you do.

I agree with previous posts that it is not likely you will get better treatment from one dealer or another, though Toyota dealers do seem to have good reputations around here. My local dealer gives very good service in general so has good customer loyalty, and I can't imagine they get that from being complete dicks to their employees.
