My kids have to scramble a little to climb into the truck, and I wanted to give them an extra step. But, I wasn't crazy about the reduced side clearance you get from nerf bars, sliders, or running boards. So, I got these self-deploying running boards made. They deploy when the door opens, retract when the door shuts, and have LED step lights so you can see them at night. They're not very noticeable when you're just driving around. But, when you open the door, as my kids pointed out they deploy like something out of the Transformers movie.

They had those on an Esclade that picked me up from the airport a few weeks ago. Pretty cool mod.

a lot of escalades and other high end SUV/trucks have those on around here. never seen it on a taco though. i personally like the added "protection" from tube steps, but these should be very useful for u and your family. i bet your kids were stoked to see this. if i was a kid, that would be my favorite thing on the truck

AMP Powersteps look cleaner when stowed, and you can get custom lengths. I used to install them.
I agree that completely concealing the step is the way to go, but AMP doesn't make Tacomas for a reason: there's not enough room underneath the vehicle to completely hide the step. Bruce, the guy who makes these, works for AMP. He's pretty familiar with the product and design principles. A lot of the hardware is modified AMP hardware.

But, if you know how to conceal the Powersteps on a Taco, I'm sure people would be grateful to hear about the details.

Those are sweet!! You just keep coming up with new ideas.
Thanks. Also a good way to go broke, but at least I'm having fun. And, as vices go, modding your truck is one of the least destructive.

Got pulled over by a state trooper this weekend for going 12 over the limit. He liked the truck and so he just gave me a warning. You never know when all this work will do you a little good.
