I wanted to start an Off Road Sequoia Thread.

Not much out there on the real world off road capabilities of the Sequoia. Ive looked all over the web and there are a few videos and articles here and there but not much of Owners personal experiances off roading with a Sequoia.

I recently Purchansed my Sequoia, and i live in Muscat, Oman. This country is an Off Roaders dream, 80% of the country is uninhabited. Two Large deserts here, the empty quarter and Wahiba Sands, the latter being more intense driving as the red rolling dunes goes on for hundreds of Kilometers. Oman is also well know for its Wadi's Wadi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia after rain its a ball to go bashing in those river beds.

Ther are also many mountains and plateaus that are a rally drivers dream here. Ill post a video of one of our previous trips. Its not a Sequoia but it gives you an idea of the some of the terraine found in Oman. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELbXIBsWG80 and www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKLshzKsS4Y

My buddy is a Pro rally driver riding a polaris RZRS hope you like the video i was on my Yamaha grizzly

Your right about now many videos or info about offroading in the sequoia. I have a 2002 sr5 and I like it so far. I take it to sand dunes and does pretty well. Yeah I've gotten stuck but it's a learning process that I'm getting to know how to not get stuck lol. One thing I'd like to be able to fix to get the most would be truly deactivating "vsc" and being able to "lock" the differential more quickly other than having to drive a few feet before it engages. Have you done any mods to your truck ?

Silverjoe,

Havent modified it yet still stock. I just bought it last week. Got the tint on and paint protection but that's it for now. I'll be painting the chrome grille to match the car soon. And I'm still researching rims and tires. As for lifting it.... I'm gonna hold off on that, it has pretty good Clearence as it is.

Nice to hear your sequoia impressed you on sand. I think mine is heavier but I'm hoping it will do me proud on the dunes. I know on my Sequoia I can lock the diff. And that shuts off the VSC. As for getting stuck, well that part of the adventure. Plus even the best off road vehicles can get stuck in sand especially if they're heavy, it's all about getting the hang the vehicle.

Land Crusiers are king in this side of the world. Mainly because how well the perform in sand. I'm not expecting the Sequioa to emulate that but I'm hoping it impresses.

downside #1 where i live - these things are big, we just got a 2012 - so the east coast trails will really pinstripe this pig

downside #2 stock wheelsize (Silverjoe - pics?) the size/weight of this vehicle to wheel-contact-patch ratio isn't as good as my LandCruiser, but hey, the scales are tilted with 37"x12.5" shoes on that thing

i won't go into independent vs. solid axle here, as we're not talking about long term rockcrawling.

but will share that I've seen in person a SAS (solid axle swap) sequoia and it was just mean. nice coin to do that though.

current offroad toy:

we do like the fact that our new 2012 actually has a 4-low and center locking transfer case, but short of camping/field mud, ski trips with mountain snow, not sure how far off road we'll take it when we have the beast above to abuse.

Hey bud. Oman is built for offloading in my opinion it's great for that. I've posted on tundra solutions

Check out the pics there. Also I added a link with a video on the thread you started over there.
