Hello all, I am new to the forum. This was probably discussed, but I was wondering what brand and place to buy would you recommend for the Camry shocks? Something inexpensive, but decent quality. Thank you.

I went with the Monroe quick struts on the front of my Solara. I've had them for 3 years now and they've been working fine, except the strut bearing seems to make a clunking noise when I turn in the parking lot at low speeds. I've read KYB struts are better, but their mounts aren't that great.

Using quick struts sure makes the job a lot easier, not having to deal with spring compressors. I recommend buying pre-assembled quick struts and doing the job yourself to save money. Here's how I did mine:

I switched out all 4 of my 2001's with KYBs and they are still pretty good after a year and a half of spirited and rough driving. They soften up after a few hundred miles. The difference between monroe and kyb is not that much and kyb is said to be a good deal better. I too heard that KYB mounts were not the best, but we shall see. I don't have any clunking noise though.

Monroe has had lots of quality problems over the years. I would never installt them unless they were the only brand available. KYB's have always worked well and You will never have to deal with their lifetime warranty. (unlike certain parts stores!!)
