Just wanted someone to give me a better comparsion on these forms on intake.

CAI are about $80- $150 from what i see. They make a sound not sure how loud it is because my friend has on installed but his stereo and exhast is going at it about the same time. I heard it give about a 15hp extra.

Short ram's are about 30-60$. A lot cheaper. no sounds really. 5-10hp. this is how i see it as right now.

I'm sure there is a lot more detailed info about these but i'm planning on putting one or the other in. But i dunno really what are the ups and downs on either. thanks

both are loud, the hp increase isn't too much, but it is there, and the short ram vs cai issue really seems to me to be where you want ur power curve to be. I've been told that the short ram gives more low end and the CAI gives more top end. oh yeah, the real benefit seems to be better throttle response.

i assume your speaking of torque. But what is low end and top end?

its the peak of power in relation to the rpm at every gear... hope i'm not confusing you?!?! e.g. if your car has a lot of low end power, then you car generatesmost power at lower revs and rpm. Its the opposite for high end power.

low end = most power @ lower rpms
hi end= most power @ higher rpms

I've driven a celica and the celica has more high end. My car on the other hand has low end... I'm not sure what's better. I think its a matter of preference.

I don't think you gain that much... 15hp is probably including a catback/ Does anyone know?

ok well then shouldn't camry's be aiming for more low end. since the car is heavy. I would assume low end would make it quicker for accerlation. and no you didn't loose me at all.


gaak when you say both are loud i dont think i can agree. I haven't really heard any loud distinve sounds from a short ram. correct me if i'm wrong. I assume the CAI makes a lot more sound.

Well my plans are just to get an intake. I dont want a catback exhast. Just don't like the idea of making a loud constant sound. Thats getting too much attention.

i can go either way but i need more info on this. I wanna do some research on why one thing is better then the other.

Both cause you to loose low-end torque and horsepower. But you gain minmal high end. And both aren't worth the money unless you have a massive hp, or just want a sound change.

Would it be worth it to put on a v6? Many ppl have told me its pretty pointless to put it on the I4.. but since the v6 produces more hp and torque... i'd assume it would be a good idea.

and nothing other than a full header system w/ intake and catback will give you 15hp at the wheels....

you'll be lucky if you get 2hp from a cai and -2hp from a shortram sucking hot air from your engine bay

I personally dont mind see'ing old topics revived. Search'ing the forums is also pretty usefull.. but every once and a while its not bad to bring up one of the frequent questions that most people ask. Its a forum.. common... if all we did was use the search button.. this place would be boring and dead.
