94 yota 22re w/ LC Engineering heads..
Well I think I screwed myself.
I always had trouble getting the midpipe <to> header downpipe to stay sealed at the flange connection. So I decided it would be a good idea to have the shop weld in a flex pipe (braided type) at the junction to replace the flanged connection.
Well it was installed and it sounded like a VW beetle when I get on it, (past part throttle) So I thought there was a leak ( bad weld ) or something.
I took it in, they told me the original flex pipe was too short and it was pulling apart from the movement of the engine.. (eh..kinda made sense..but it was free to fix it) they went to weld in a longer pipe. The longer pipe is even worse, and they did a great job on the welds..
I figured out what it was.. Remember those ribbed plastic tube noise makers you swung around as a kid, that made that loud whistle..Well the inside of the flex tube is ribbed. So I figure with enough pressure of exhaust is making it resonate/whistle.
The fix?? Well since I dont want to cut anymore from my LC Engineering headers. I going to try and wrap the flex pipe with header wrap to see if this helps at all.. My buddy who had the same problem with his Maxium use the wrap for the same problem
Has anyone else had this issue with a flex pipe like this? has anyone found a remedy? or a better way to seal the midpipe to header down-pipe.
thanks
Geoffrey
