I followed the instruction from a post discussing some of the same symptoms that I am having with my Toyota pickup 22re 1993 ....I checked the signal gen. cold with volt meter and read 217.6 ohms cold....initially it seems as though the signal generator is bad considering the specs given were 140 -180 ohms...
I let the truck run for twenty minutes and checked the signal gen. again and it showed 270.6 ohms.... Would everyone agree that its bad... Just want a definitive answer... Also .... If it is indeed bad... Can it be replaced without replacing the distributor...??? It seems as though it could due to the hold down screws inside the distributor housing...Any ideas on how much the can cost...???

Actually Toyota specifies 185-275ohm resistance so that probably is not the problem.

If the signal generator were bad it would most likely cause your engine to not run. And almost certainly would cause the check engine light to come on and set a diagnostic trouble code.

140-180 ohms is for 84-89 22R(E) engines. I believe 90-95 uses a different signal generator with different specs.
