Sirius Satellite and DF TOY Install

5834 Views 24 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  ilovetacos
So I finally installed my Sirius radio and DF TOY Sunday night....Here are some pics of the install. Fairly easy to do.

I used this for the satellite radio...reception is really good with one of these...Have an extra for sale if anyone's interested...I also hardwired the radio into the extra cig lighter.

Mounted the DF TOY behind the glove box...One channel for my IPOD and other is left open for my laptop when playing DVD's.

Wire for my IPOD...Coming from storage bin right below the 4x4 switch...

Put the radio down here...I can easily take it in and out.

This is where I mounted the Satellite Antenna...

All done...IPOD and Sirius both working...

Bracket?

Where did you get your bracket to mount the Sirius down in your cubby tray. Mine just came with the one that you install on the windshield and sucks it to stay on.

It isn't a bracket. It's actually the base the radio needs to be "plugged" into in order to be powered. I have another mounted in my garage so all I have to do is take the radio in and out between my garage and truck.

Does the sound quality increase when you use the DF TOY and modulator? I am using the transmitter and its pretty good... just wondering if it will make a difference in sound quality.
Thanks.
Look's good. I'm planning on hooking up my Sirius/Ipod the same way but unforunately, I'm still trying to find a DF-TOY...everywhere I look, it's out of stock. Where did you get yours? Also, that's an unusual place for your Sirius antenna...why did you decide that location? Do you have any reception problems with it? I'm planning mounting it the roof of the cab and running the wire through the 3rd brake light. That's how i did it on my other truck and I had perfect reception.

I found it at Circuity City in Visalia, CA...they actually had a few in stock. Circuit City are no longer selling them online...I paid $69.99.

I decided to mount it there because it was easy and I thought it would look good. The reception is great. I used to have it mounted in the middle of my dash but I would sometimes lose reception mounting it there.

The sound quality is actually suprisingly good. There isn't much of a difference between a CD and my IPOD...It will sound much better than a FM Transmitter.

What's a DF TOY?
wow...

Enjoy maximum possible sound quality when you play your portable music through your Toyota's factory radio. USA SPEC's innovative DF-TOY adapter lets you connect your portable music player directly to your compatible 1998-up Toyota factory radio. Just plug the adapter cable into your radio's CD changer input, mount the interface box, and you're ready to listen to your tunes.
And the news gets better — if you also have another sound source you want to hook up to your Toyota's sound system, the DF-TOY provides a second set of connections for an iPod, satellite radio tuner, or DVD player. You can switch between sources with your factory radio controls.

You will not be able to purchase these from Crutchfield...they are out of stock and have been for at least a month.

I tried the local Circuit City here and they don't have a clue as to what the DF-TOY was. I like where you positioned it...looks real clean. Did you run the antenna cable through the firewall?
Nice work

I installed my Sirius in the same spot.
My local circuit city says they have some at other stores but they aren't the USA-SPEC branded ones. The audio guy told me they pretty much do the same thing but are made for circuit city. Does anyone know if this is true?

These being backordered at Crutchfield is no lie. I have been waiting on my order for weeks now. The cust service says they have no estimate when they will arrive.

They showed me the unit you are talking about at my local Circuity City...It's pretty much the same thing but only has 1 channel and I believe it's close to $100. I am confused why the DF TOY is so hard for everyone to find. They had 5 in stock here and the tech said I was the first guy to buy one from him because most people just change out their decks.

Yes...there is a small grommet right behind the glovebox. It was a little difficult to fish it through because the "AC filter thingy unit" is in the way. My chuby hands took a beating :argh:

I can see where the grommet is from the engine side, where exactly is it behind the glovebox/AC filter thing?
How is you reception?

How long have you had it installed...I am wondering how the antenna placement is working. DO you travel much or stay in a metropolitan area. I was wondering if you are just getting the celestial(normal radio reception) and not he terrestrial(from satellite). I am about to put my XM on the roof just in front of the brake light. I do a lot of road work and I depend on the satellite reception quite a bit. If I can get by with the location you have I would do it.
Where did you find the grommets for the small holes you drilled? Clean set up and exactly what I had planned with my Sirius radio.

You can buy those grommets at any home improvement store or electronics components store, i.e. radio shack.
