My skid plates off my oil pan and transfer case got ripped off when i was off roading and now im looking to upgrade. I got a buddy who works metal really good, and he said if i got the dimensions and the materials he would make me a skid plate. Can someone give me the dimensions that would cover up my guts from my oil pan straight over my transfer case? I am going to take a 4x8 sheet of 1/8 galvanised steel or that checkered plate metal and bend it in three areas, an almost 90 degree in the front then like a 45 then a flat so it covers, thats my idea anyways. Can someone give me the dimensions, the angles etc that they used or of their sexy aftermarket one? Cause the toyota stock one is no thicker than a roll of alluminum foil. Thanks

cheers

oh btw im driving a 2000 4v4 tacoma

thanks

5hurik3n,

I'm not sure you'll find anyone that would want to take the risk of giving you the geometric dimensions for a skid plate for fear that any one or more of them might not be exactly correct leaving you up sheet creek while they end up holding the paddle. There are too many angles and bolt hole locations that are not in the same plane and the tolerances, although not exactly to machining specifications do have to be within 1/32" to line up especially if your material is going to be thicker. Best option might be to borrow someone's from a truck that doesn't do any offroading, so he or she doesn't miss it, then give it back to them when you are finished doing all the takeoffs that you need.

Just get under the truck with some cardboard and start making your own templates

Tin foil works too. Get a BIG wad of it, the size of the skid plate you want to simulate (or 2 pieces), loosly balled up, and firmly press to underside of what you are covering. It might take a whole roll of heavy weight foil. But it will simulate the shape you want. Be careful not to bend it when you use it to measure for your plate.
