Guys,need your help please. I recently purchased an '87 MR2. It ran fine for a while, then smoke appeared from the engine. I am no mechanic, but i think this came from the alternator - is this common? Since then i tried to start it the other day and the belts were screeching real bad, and the smoke appeared again. Any ideas?

try washing down your engine bay. take out your battery and hose everything down really well then check .. let it dry really well (maybe overnight) and start it in the morring and check to see where any noise/smoke is comming from.
