So I am looking for snow chains for my HL. The Thule fit guide does not show any thing that will the tires. Looked a bit online, but all I saw was Thule. Wen to shop today and had them look stuff up and found nothing. To quote him: "That's an odd tire size"

Anyone have any luck for chains?

I am running into the same problem.

Occassionally our passes post chains required for all vehicles (even 4wd) so I need them just in case.

Hopefully someone here has found a source

For what it is worth,,

I found the following site and it appears they have cable chains that fit the 245/55-19 tire.

http://www.scc-chain.com/Traction%20Pages/Trac_app_guide.asp

You can get them through local Firestone stores.
Part Number is SSC super-Z LT ZT 735 from their website.

Will let you know how they fit when I pick a set up on Wednesday

The are not cheap..$120 for a set

Thanks summerwind... I called a dozen places today and all they had was up to 18s. After reading your reply, I called firestone and checked their website, http://www.firestonecompleteautocare.com, and they said don't carry them anymore. Is there a different firestone?
May be a regional thing.

My Firestone store was able to get them for me.

Did you try the store locator link??

http://www.scc-chain.com/Traction%20Pages/Trac_store_locate.aspx

Might give SCC a call. They are an Oregon based company.

They may be able to supply another source.

Also you might want to wait until I verify they fit correctly as well. I should have them Wednesday or Thursday and will post the results.

Did a test fit of my SSC super-Z LT ZT 735 cable chains for the Highlander P245/55R19 Bridgestone Dueler H/L 400's that are on my Limited.

They fit fine.

There is one hook in the back and two hooks in the front that are part of the installation. Practice probably will make perfect but it took some pull here and pull there to get the slack required to hook the top front. The bottom front had extra slack.

I also indexed the chains so the back clip was at 1200. In this position you are playing around the coil over spring area. The next time I will try indexing it at 1100 to stay clear of the coil over springs.

Soooo...if you have to have a set of cable chains these were the only ones I found that would fit the P245/55R19 tires on my HL.

ON EDIT: Duh should have read the instructions again.. I made the installation harder than it needs to be. I drove onto the chains after I layed them in front of the tire. The chains are made to be installed WITHOUT driving on them. Doing it the right way solves the problem I had with the amount of cable available for the front top connection...Jeez...

Move the chain in a sweeping motion under the vehicle so the open
mid-section is positioned against the backside of the tire.
This sweeping motion can best be done while kneeling in front of the tire.

Thanks Summerwind...

I called a whole bunch of the numbers listed on the store locations and after the 5th try, I found it! I picked up the same ones, 735, and they fit great. It was pretty easy to put on too. The only problem was that the tire is so close to the shocks. So you really got stick your hands in deep to hook it in the back. But other than that, it was good.

Summerwind, great stuff.

Mate, just asking to see if you have driven the Bridgestone in the snow and see what you think. I am thinking going up Mt Buller this winter. They require to carry a set of chain to the mountain although it is not compulsory to get it fitted.

You see in Melbourne you only get snow over 1000m altitude in Winter. :ugh3:

Hopefully our passes will be open tomorrow.
They have been closed off and on all week due to heavy snow and avalache contol work (Snoqualmie Pass is closed again until this evening at the earliest). I can't remember this many closures during a winter session.
Truckers are losing money sitting by the road side and the ski areas are losing money as their customers can't get up to the ski areas.

I have to go over to pickup a new dog.
Will let you know how the Bridgestones workout.

Same thing in our passes. All wheel drive is allowed but you have to carry a set of chains just in case.

Had the same experience with the clearance with the shocks.

That is another good thing about these cable chains. They meet SAE Class S requirements for limited clearance vehicles.

Weather...go figure.

We had so much snow that all of the passes were closed.
Then we had a warm front move through that brought rain that cleared off all of the snow from the roads on the pass.

We made the trek over Snoqualmie Pass this morning and it was clear sailing with no snow or ice.

Sooo.. will have to delay comments on how the Bridgestones do to a later snow event.

Haha. The winter is about 6 months away in the southern hemisphere summerwind...

I am sure I can wait a little while for your valued opinion...

Amazon has some that fit 245/55-19

I had the same problem: the local Les Schwab did not have anything fitting a 245/55-19, nor could they even order them. After a bunch of looking around I finally found the Security Chain Super Z6, SZ435 at Amazon.com.

Currently they are $84.99 with free shipping.

I just ordered them, so I don't have any first-hand experience, but they supposedly fit 245/55-19.

Out of curiosity, why wouldn't chains be installed on the rear wheels? I'll bet the reason is obvious, but it escapes me at the moment....

:D

TrailDust

Just a summerwind wild ass guess (SWAG)...

It might have something to do with the transfer case and how it does it's 50/50 power distribution. And then there is VSC, ABS, xyz and all of the other computer stuff that might get a head ache:rolleyes:

A senior service tech might be able to answer the question with an answer other than "Toyota knows what is best for you..do not question the Toyota":yikes:
