...I get my truck back and it stops on a dime. It's awesome to have control again.

But uh, I looked in the passenger seat just now and saw that the new master I bought was still in the box!! I ran inside the house, grabbed a flashlight and looked under the hood:
the same master with all the oxidation/rust cleaned off, the brake fluid reservoir is cleaned out and full of fresh fluid.

So...what the heck? You mechanics out there, tell me what this dude did! Should I be mad about it? I figure if he pulled the master and rebuilt it, then that takes about the same amount of labor as pulling the old one and putting in the new....actually, he quoted me 1.6 hours of labor to replace and install this thing. If anything, rebuilding it seems like it might even take longer....so did this dude do me a favor and save me money on parts? If that's the case I can take back this master and get my money back.

Thoughts?

FYI,

I could rebuild a M/C in less than 5 minutes. It's really easy. Take it off the truck, put it in a vice, push the piston in with a blunt object, pop the c-clip, and the piston falls out. Replace the 2 round gaskets on the plunger or piston, and carefully reinsert the piston into the M/C, and pop the c-clip back on.

You still have to bench bleed, and then bleed the system, but rebuilding is so easy.

DCM,
so if all he did was change the fluid and bleed the system, did I get ripped off? Does that take the 1.6 hours labor he quoted me?

If he had someone helping him, then sure. He probably counted the time it took plus moving it around, and possibly a coffee break. You never know.
I agree with the other guys though; call them up or stop in there and just ask, especially since you had an m/c right there in the box.
