So I was driving home yesterday when some joker who was in the next lane over (such that I was in his blind spot) decided it would be a good idea to put his blinker on and mosey on into my lane. I honked, I braked, but SCRAPE/THUNK. Greeeeat. Fortunately, the damage wasn't too bad. But still. My truck's only 5 months old. =/

Tore off the separate piece of wheelwheel flaring that continues on the front bumper. It lodged in his stupid GMC Jimmy....

Fortunately, he handed it back.

Here's a better idea of how the piece is supposed to look...

Hopefully it won't be much of a deal to replace, though there are some small scratches on the bumper which I might demand be repainted. We'll see.

The insurance companies will definately give a repaint on the bumper if it is scratched. It is an easy fix to do. If you can get the check for the repairs, and you could go without the truck for a couple of days, I would have the bumper and extension painted, and do everything yourself. The bumper is SOOO simple to remove and replace. It would be worth the saved money of shop labor to do it, but thats just me.

FYI, it is an easy fix, but you will need to remove the bumper to put the flare extension back on.

And yeah, I hate the feeling knowing your truck is injured...I dreaded the time I had to drive mine with the cracks in the bumper :-(

Sorry, having a bit of trouble. Are you saying you'd paint the bumper yourself and put the new extension + bumper back on?

Also, you have to take off the bumper to put the extension on? The extension looks like it's largely a snap-in piece.

Sorry...what I was saying was that I would take the bumper off...take it somewhere and have it painted along with a replacement extension. If the shop can match paint well, you could just have those pieces painted. Then you would put them back on.

The extension has clips on the backside of the bumper that you need to get to that hold it onto the bumper. The easiest way to get to the clips is to take the bumper off. You can't really see the clips on your truck cause they are still stick on behind the bumper.

aftermarket bumper time?
Ummm YEAH!
I would hate to see what that insurance write up will be... i would get it appraised at the jokers insurance company and get a check... then place an order for your aftermarket bumper... Get'r done!

That sucks. At least it's minimal damage. Must be something about new trucks. I had a '97 Taco for 8 years w/ no problems. Got an '07 last year and have had lots of near misses. People changing into my lane several time, even been run off the road once. Just pisses me off when others don't pay attention. :cursin:

^ I know what you mean. I had an 00 Xtracab bought new in June 00 drove it until it was totalled in Dec 06, 61,8xx miles of no accidents, barely even a door ding until that day. Now my 07 was scraped, in a parking lot, on the front bumper in less than a year. People suck!

PB, wheres a place I can get some decent air horns that won't take up a butt load of room, and same with the bottle? I relocated my horns a while back, water got in them, and now they're shot. So currently I have no way of letting idiotic drivers know they're a friggin tool :hammer:
