hello fellow previa owners! i've recently(about 5 hours ago) opened the right rear sidewall panel of my 1992 Previa LE and i was astonished to find it empty and with lots of space. the interior is actually simple fiberglass and plastic. i thought to myself, so thats where all that noise comes from... i can knock on the exterior body... so i plan to soundproof the wheel wells and side walls for reduction in road noise and engine/exhaust noise... i hope to get some adhesive ones so its much simpler and not stuff it, or too much extra weight might pose a problem... once i get all corners checked, i'll see how much i need.

taking apart the side wall was not much of a challenge. i hope the rest of the interior is as simple to take apart... of course with some research assisting.

i also took out the right rear drivers. a 5.25 or 5.50 inch wide range driver, 15 watts at 4 ohms and a 6x9 inch low frequency driver with 20 watts @ 4 ohms. the 6x9" woofer was GONE. the surrounds on the extended range driver was excellent for a 16 year old car. hope to replace them slowly... or wait till i can mod for individual stereo for the quad captains chairs.

I'm very interested in your project. What you might look at is the 97' Previas, and see how they were designed. I heard that Toyota worked on the sound on that one...

Relocating the engine is another option :D
lolz, if only i could.
the 97 previas, check cardomain a bit for interior pix... didnt see much

i'll have pix up tomorrow morning. i've stuffed the sidewalls of my 92. no tests yet to see the effectiveness.

Take in mind that the Previa's body shape makes it a giant oven. Keeping the heat in isn't exactly the greatest idea.
yea, that thought came to mind but then again, after its cooled down and ac'd for a bit it should help retain the ac right? Although it'll take a bit to get it cooled down.

SEAT ANCHOR #1

Seat Anchor #2

UNBOLT SEAT!

Unbolt SEATBELT ANCHOR-careful not to lose the precious parts!

Unscrew rear trunk lip protector thing and then pop it off- say hi to my puppy CoCo!

then pry off the top part of the wall. there are 3... left middle and right.
then take a peek inside to see exactly where the snap pins are and tug a little bit.

then take of the FRONT section and THEN the rear section.

These little prong thing jigs are a bit tougher to get off as they're buried under the weather strip.

u can see where they were sitting

Heres a shot of the 6x9 woofer mount, although it looks much more circular... take if off for easier maneuverability.

shot of the inside and a hint of the tail light indicators.

Take off the tail lights for easier access to the rearmost of the sidewall cavity... even with my thin arms had trouble getting into the back...

COMPLETED...

Hi again! thats all the pix i have for the passenger side rear sidewall.... i will not reveal the material i used for the stuffing. and no, its not toilet paper.

I also have the quad captain's chairs. I am replacing the stereo system and the speakers, shifting the speakers in the panels by fibreglassing over the old hole and cutting a new one, stiffening the panel as well, and mounting the speakers to the panels. Then am planning to move the middle seats back a few inches for more space. I am looking for a diagram of the floor pan so I can find the best place to attach them, and do a job that will pass the modification inspector. Any ideas where I might get this info?
