Guys,
My '08 Tacoma regular cab is here. Loved the '00 I had but the new one is light years ahead. Anyway I have some questions. I did search but I couldn't find defenant answers.
Front speakers, the mids or woofers, what size are they in the regular cabs?
The tweeters, are adapters needed when replacing them?
What do you guys like for speakers? Going to need to be efficent with the limited power.
Is anyone building a sub box for regular cabs? I don't need or want huge bass and don't want to move the seat up.
What are you using for head units? My last 2 Alpines had issues, quality just isn't what it used to be.
Thanks in advance,
jscheu

i would go with nice 6.5 in the front doors that come with tweeters and crossover. My favorite is JL and but they are kinda pricey. I think they are 6x9 stock so you will have to get adapters. im not 100% certain. I have had a panasonic for years. no ipod interface but i have the aux cable anyway. i had a kicker solobaric 15 in the back of mine for a while the i switched to 2 kicker cvrs behind the seat. i they are good enough for me and this truck.

jl makes good subs and elemental design are also good, kicker has mixed review but thats what i have always had and never have been disappointed
If you look at the thread below (i know it is a DC) you may be able to seal the doors and run a set of 8" components off of a decent amp and get what you are looking for. Also search for Pb's system install as he was the basis for my project. I think that Cam2xrunner put 10's in his doors and did a three way setup. Also the new JL slimline subs are available soon, might be worth holding out for since you would not have to move your seet up.

I had a Sony Xplod HU, but I wasn't satisfied with the Ipod navigation or display, so when I got the Taco, I went with a Pioneer. Great display, and Ipod navigation is good if you don't need to scroll.
I put a three way component set in my dc with an 8" midbass driver. I put the tweeter in the cover for the side view mirrors and built a pod in the a pillar for the mid. I spaced out the 8" with a 1/4 inch adapter and a 3/4" ring. There was still plenty of space behind the door panel. Oh, I used DLS speakers in my truck.

im just wondering..how much does a 3 way component set up cost anyway?
You will need adaptors for the speakers. I made mine out of MDF. Its not too hard. The tweeter is a weird ass size.

Depends on the model or how much you want to spend. My set retails for somewhere around $1100.00. It is called Iridium 8.3 by DLS but I think they have a set for about $800.00 retail. I would say do some research for a local retailer in your area. If you can't find one then call or email DLS in the US.

Three ways will cost more to install simply because they are harder to install. I really only recomend two ways with a 6 1/2" because of midrange quality but a three way set works well in the Tacomas with an 8".
I was looking on tacotunes and interested in replacing my speakers doors and tweeters.. I rear on there you need to get the adapters for the new speakers to the plug in the door so you ddon't have to splice wire.. Where does one go about getting the plug in.. And I've heard a lot of mixed ideas of what speakers to run, Something not and arm and a leg but sounds better then the stockers w/o and high shit to them lol thanks
i have heard the high end JL and they sound sick, the VRs are in a good price range and they sound good. make sure you get component.
Definitely can't go wrong with JL Audio. It'd be great if I had the money for them now, but I'll just get the Infinity Kappa line of components, amps, and subs from them since I get a big discount :) I'll see how those work out and see.
Ya, I'm not wanting a sub im mine, well just yet.. Kinda just wanting to replace the speakers and maybe the H.U. if my truck gets lucky.. Where are you all getting the adapters to plug in the new speakers at or are they and option whtn you buy them from somewhere
If you use components it's easier to run new wires for the crossovers and speakers. Don't bother trying to use the stock speaker wires.

I would go with either JL or image dynamics for your mids, highs and subs. Pioneer and eclispe make great head units IMO. There are tons of options out there to choose from. I had trouble finding a 10" sub box that would fit behind my bench seat with out having to cut out the jack stand mounts so i just built one.
