I continue to be amazed by the different things Toyota offers in different parts of the country. I built a Tacoma using a GA zip. I found the interior light package that has been discussed here previously. I also found a package referred to only as "Convenience Package" that listed as follows:

Convenience Package Includes: $1460 Sequoia Power Heated Outside Mirrors
Accessory Meter w/Compass Outside Temp. Gauge
Homelink
Trip Computer

Heated mirrors/trip computer. I've been specifically told I couldn't get those on a Taco. Anyone know anything about this?

Toyota loves the Southeast, we determined that yesterday. I also hear they'll throw in an extra trailer adapter if you're in Arizona :D

Their regional option packages make NO sense. I mean, I could understand if VSC and heated outside mirrors were only available in cold/snowy regions, but it seems to be the exact opposite. Although I would've liked to have heated mirrors today, I had a little condensation on one for the first 3 minutes of my commute

I hadn't thought about this until just now, but this is full-size truck country - our roads are dominated by F150's and Chevy and Dodge 1500's. These options are available on all of those vehicles (excluding VSC) - perhaps they make them available on our Tacomas so they'll be more appealing to full-sizers looking to go smaller (like I did.) Just a WAG, but it makes a little sense, I guess.

Interesting theory. It probably makes as much sense as anything.

I'm sure I could find a ton of folks here around OK/TX/NM who think no place is more "big truck country" than this part of the US. And then someone from Wyoming or Montana would say they were the real "big truck courntry" and we could all argue about who's right. Probably not a productive path to go down...

I totally agree that these types of options would make these trucks more competitive vs the big boys - which makes me wonder why in the world you can't actually get them. I'd pay a little extra for power seats and those kinds of things. I don't want a giant truck, but I want a well appointed one. I can understand making these options somewhat rare - but it appears to me that they are almost non-existent.

I'm convinced things like VSC and the side curtain air bags are something Toyota gets credit for offering - and then is entitled to some benefits, whether that's tax breaks or just the bragging rights of saying they offer them on all their cars and therefore are "safety conscious". I can't think of any other reason why they'd engineer a system that would work and then put it on a miniscule number of trucks. I'd like to know how many trucks sold actually have these options. I'm pretty sure the best NHTSA ratings for the Tacoma are based on a double cab with all the air bags. They tell you how safe that truck is, but they only build 100 with those features a year.

Good luck finding one...

Wow, just re-read that last post.

:cursin:

I need to settle down. I'm normally not much of conspiracy theorist but this really got me going.

Sorry about that.

Good point. Very good point. Judging by the big truck resale prices from traderonline and eBay, it would seem Texas may be the most plentiful. I haven't compared their optional packages to ours to see what they can get, though.

I just went back and looked at my 2006 paper brochure and the 2006 regional (and national) pdf brochures. I got all of them less than 2 months ago. I can't find that convenience package anywhere. What model/ configurations are you saying it's available on? Is this something new that's come available here recently?

edit: I almost forgot... I'm in NC which is in the Southeast region.

i would LOVE heated outside mirrors. my friend's '99 4Runner has them, and they're quite nice when it's snowy out. :(

I didn't find them in the PDFs either. I went to the "Build it" web site and entered an Atlanta zip. I assume any SE zip would get you there. It may have been under Accessories but I can't remember which heading for sure. What I posted here is cut and pasted from the site. There's a pic of the lighting package but no pic of the Convenience Package. I'd love to see what it's really supposed to look like.

I have no idea if it's new or not - but my dealer says he can't find it in any of his paperwork period. I'd be very interested to see if you find them entering your zip.

The "Build It Now" option isn't working right now for me on Toyota's web site. I'll try it again later and let you know what I find. My hunch is it was just a glitch in the "Build It Now" software. I've personally seen it happen before (can't remember which vehicle it was though). I did the same thing... went to the dealer asking about it just to have him say that it most definitely was not an option.

If heated mirrors are an option in other areas would it be safe to say that the wires might allready be there? That would be pretty sweet. Then we could just order the mirrors from a southeast dealer.

OK, I just did the "Build Your Own" thing on Toyota's web site (using a NC zip... which is in the Southeast region) and no where in the process do I see anything about heated mirrors. It wasn't under accesories or packages. The closest thing I saw was a driver and passenger seat heater for $1696.00.

And something else... if this were meant to be a package for the Tacoma, why would the word "Sequoia" be in the package name?

Again, I'm thinking it was a sporadic server (or software) glitch. :dunno:

I tried last night and again this AM - the "Build your own" site is hanging up, which is probably evidence in favor of your software glitch explanation. I've been curious about the "Sequoia heated mirrors" as well.

Now I'm thinking I imagined it - except that I have a print out of the Access cab I built that lists the option.

Use caution building cars from outside your area.
Example. I am located in the Central Atlantic Distributors Region (CATD), and we recently serviced a Camry with a Gulf States Region leather interior. When ordering a replacment seat cover for this car, the parts had to come from GST. The seat cover was JUNK, and they did not want to pay to have it replaced outside their region. After many phone calls, and talking to several different GST parts people, we got a replacement part, and 1 hour to replace it.
Be careful if you want to take one of GST or SET vehicles out of their region, as you may not get support from them!

They are franchises, and not owned by Toyota Motor Sales(TMS).

Update:

The SE "Build your Toyota" site is working again and I found the following:

MSRPConvenience Package Includes:$1460Locks/Mirrors, Remote Keyless Entry,
Cruise Control, Sliding Rr Window
w/Privacy Glass
Interior Light Package$249Under Dash Lights
Cup Holder Lights
Center Console Light if vehicle equipped with Center Console

Notice the Convenience package has been changed and no longer mentions some of the bizarre things as previous. It seems the "heated mirrors, trip computer" was indeed a hoax and likely was a computer error. I swear it was there before though - I still have a copy of it.

I promise not to go overboard again, but does anyone else think it's spooky that this got fixed as it was being discussed here?
