I bought a used car, and it runs good until it warms up, then it throws a code and runs rough. Turns out it is a code 52, knock sensor signal. Apon further inspection, the wire coming from the knock sensor is unplugged.... Sounds simple, except I cant figure out where to plug it into!!

There is a black wire with a yellow stripe, and a brown wire coming into the connector.

Please help me figure out where to plug it into!

Thanx in advance.

Terry.

That's a great pic but I dont see the sensor that I see on my engine.

Ok, I feel like kindof a schmutz here, but I do have a 3vz-fe engine right? 92 Camry V6?

The wires I am thinking of come off of a sensor that is between the oil filter and the AC pump. One end of the wires go up the side of the alternator brackets and off somewhere, the other end has the mystery connector on it.

I may just have a different engine than the one pictured, or something.

Please give me some advise.

Thanx!

No, I have not, The front one is on the lower part of the block located between the oil filter and the AC compressor right? Or is that an oil pressure sender?

The back one, I have no Idea..

Hard to tell on that picture.

Happy Thanksgiving BTW.

The best to you and yours, also.
According to the drawing in the '93 manual, they look like they are under that cover on top of the engine. IIRC, it has 4 Allen screws holding it on. After the screws are out it just pops off. Retighten to barely snug. It's only a beauty cover. I'm assuming this is similar to yours.
It is the same engine model number.

I see, I see!!

So if my car is giving me code 52 then one of those sensors is possibly screwed.

Thank you, the sensors are very easy to see there.

Then I still have the mystery connector under the hood, I'll take a picture of it in a minute... Still fighting off that turkey sleep..

This is the side view of the mystery connertor. It appears to have been toasted on manifold and shortened up a bit.

This, I'm pretty certain now to be the oil pressure sender, which is where the extra wires are coming out of.

Front view of the connector. Bad pic, I know.

So basicly I need to know where this needs to plug into.

Thanks for all the help on this!

oil pressure sender is that black cylinder next to the filter, im not too sure at first glance where that connector goes, check around your alternator and your ac compressor.

Well that pretty much solves it, Seems strange to have extra wires just hanging under the hood, but whatever.

Thank you everybody for your help!

oh, to answer for toyota's strangeness for that connector, its so they can use the same wire harness set up, for multiple models of one car, like the avalon, lex. es300, nad so on. model specific, but in a way universal.
oh ive got a 92 3VZ-FE with the "mystery connector" also...lol
