Can anyone help me troubleshoot my speedometer?

Last week, my speedometer was busted. I just replaced this one with a unit from ebay. All of the gauges just works fine (tacho, fuel, temp) except the speedometer which reads way to high!

Maybe, my approximate speed was abt 40KPH but read more than a 100KPH? Could this just a calibration problem or just unlucky that the one I bought is also defective?

Anyone who experienced the same problem?, btw... my original speedometer top speed was 240 KPH, the one I had right now was only 180KPH.(could also contributed to the issue) - and yes.. I'm from Asia that's why its in KPH!:naughty:

Please help!:)

As far as I know, the only way to calibrate those is to actually take the needle off and get to the 'proper' speed, then put the needle back on so it points at the actual speed you're going at the time. Zero tension on the spring does NOT correspond to zero kph. You may need a trustworthy friend in a pace car for this.

.. is there any other way? does anyone know how much voltage does a VSS generates @ 100KPH (or any constant speed say 60mph) so i could just inject this voltage to the sending unit and calibrate the speedometer to the 100kph mark (or any given speed)without driving at highways?

Hey Guys.... the 2 car calibration approach is very risky... but managed to put the needle anyway at 60 KPH

The problem now... it does not go way beyond calibration value (set speed of 60 KPH)..I mean 0 ~ 60 KPH only even speed is at 100 KPH....

Maybe I got.. busted gauge? what do you think?
