I agree!

I actually got a chance to drive a US production SmartCar and I wasn't all that impressed. The handling, brakes, and ride felt fairly unrefined and underdeveloped. I truly thought I was going to enjoy driving the SmartCar around, but I just didn't! The car doesn't even feel that luxurious and some of the materials feel poorly put together. Surprising considering it's price!

I sure hope Toyota brings the iQ to the US! It seems like a much better urban car. I'd much rather have a durable, reliable, and well-built Toyota!

ARE YOU LISTENING TOYOTA?

I'm not tyring to be a dousche or anything but that is not true. How far did you drive the car? 5 miles tops? Were u driving a preproduction unit? I have put 400+ miles on our fortwo and i can tell u this thing handles like a jack rabbit. It takes corners better than my xrs and stop a hell of alot faster. We have over 2,000 miles on it and we have never had any problems. The smart will do much better in snow than the iQ b/cits rear engine rwd setup and traction control (old VW beetle anyone??) it gets anywhere from 33-37 city mpg and roughly 44 hwy mpg. Anybody who thinks they are shit obviously hasnt driven one 4 more than an hour.. If its such a bad car why would toyota try to copy it??

First off, that is all opinion. Also, I do not think RWD is better in the snow than front wheel drive, one of the reasons being (especially in a mid engine car) you lack the weight in the front of the car with steering. if anything, I would think it would be WORSE. And trying to copy a failure is nothing new in any industry if it is fairly new and they think it can be done better. Finally, the US Smart is not the same as the Euro version IIRC.

By 'better in the snow' i meant it prlly wudnt get stuck and spin its wheels as easily, much like the old vw beetles that were also rear engine rwd. I agree, there are cars that get the same milage, but the fortwo is all engine, it is not a hybrid. It's got a 3 cylinder 1 liter engine with a 5 speed automated manual tranny.

Whats the difference between the euro and US model? I know the euro model sits higher and and bigger tires and u can get it with a diesel engine in europe. Anything else?

mwd in snow would be worse slightly as it would tailspin more
fwd is much safer in water and snow o_O

anyways these will be great for cities
and rural areas
dont have to worry about being hit by a big ol stupid truck going 65 when these cars are ment to stay in smaller areas where speeds arent supose to go over 50

I would much rather Toyota brought over a few Diesels. Also Toyota needs to build small cars with decent legroom.
I would never drive a Smart car, get hit by a truck once and you die. At least in my VW NB diesel I have a chance. I also AVERAGE 40-42 driving 75 on the highway. The smart sucks on the highway and yes I paid the $99.00 and drove it.

No, this is a common misconception. Try stopping either one in snowy conditions, neither has an advantage. This also includes AWD cars. A tailspin is easier to control than losing the front end. You would be surprized how well a RWD car can do with studded snows or chains on all 4. I much prefer the handling of a RWD over a FWD but then again I know how to drive them. Many drivers have never ddriven anything other than a FWD.

give a fwd and a rwd
to a set of 10 random people
and there will be less accidents in a fwd

give snow tires to any car and it makes it safer its what studs and snow tires are made for o_O

statistically a fwd and a awd car will be safer than a rwd or mwd
not going to argue with your experience at handling a car or what people can do
im simply stating studies and statistics which are more easily proven than heresay
