SR5 or TRD?

Hi Everyone! I need your opinions.

I am planning on getting an 08 PreRunner Access Cab but I dont know if I should spend the extra 2k or so for the TRD package. I live in so cal & the truck will never see any off roading. Can I just upgrade the shocks (5100?) on the SR5 and make it smoother or even better than the TRD package and save the extra 2k? Sorry I am a noob when it comes to trucks but I really need one for the cargo space.

I currently drive a 6spd 07 VW GTI and love it to death but I need a bigger car for future reasons (kids, gf cant drive it, lower insurance?, detailing cars on the side, etc). THanks for your opinions.

If you're going to upgrade anything that has to do with the TRD OR package, then just get an SR5 and upgrade later, cheaper and better.
There are few flavors of TRD as well.

Thanks for the replies, hopefully I will bring home the truck soon!:D

If you plan on upgrading the TRD I suggest go w/ SR5. Save yourself some $$$. TRD part are just the basic and you can upgrade to your desire. I personally like the way my TRD pkg as is and will never have the need to upgrade. TRD pkg is good enough for me. With SR5 you wont get the upgraded seats or lockers. The SR5 seats are similar to last gen seats.
definately dont get the trd off road if you are never going to use the locker and under plating protection. you might want to go for the trd sport if you like the styling (hood scoop, color matched mirrors, door handles, grill surround and rear bumper)

i off road about once a month but i wished i got the sport model instead...i never use the locker and i kinda like the hood scoop/ color matched grill surround/ grillecraft combo like others have here.
Neither :D, go with the base model and save even more $.
I wish I had gotten the TRD seats over my standard seats. Don't worry about the suspension upgrade, because the suspension TSB will upgrade your SR5 susp to TRD suspension plus add 4 leaf springs in the rear.

good to know...I think i'll test drive both to see if the seats are worth it. So far the dealer has given me a price quote of 21063 without fees for the SR5 #2 package. If anyone thinks I can do better, please let me know.
i had to make the same choice, i test drove an sr5 and then a trd sport and i liked the sport more. I liked the looks of the color matched handles and bumper and the seats were much more comfortable.

I advise just checking both out and deciding which fits your needs
Im not sure what sr5 includes but im pretty sure you get keyless, bed outlet, bigger rims, better stereo?, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better seats, LSD, the shocks, and if your go sport you get the hood and color matched everything.
I'd get the Off Road, especially in a PreRunner. Because if you ever do get the itch to wheel it (which will happen eventually), the locker will become your best friend.

Also, if its for you, girlfriend, and kids, a doublecab might be worth the extra money.
I spent the extra for a TRD and haven't regretted it once.
sup guys..

PROUD new owner of a Silver 2008 TRD Sport Access PreRunner! Everything was so much better than the SR5! Thanks for all the advice, hopefully I will learn more stuff form this forum! Will show pics later tomorrow when its bright.
Congrats! You are going to love it!

I've had it on my last two and agree 100%.

Explain what you mean by that because I saw/experienced very little that was "much better".
