I have a 2000 LE with roughly 300,000 KM.

Last year I replaced the tie rod ends but that didn't seem to help the problem of shimmying when braking hard.

A local Toyota mechanic (with over 25 years exp.) working from home suggested replacing the bushings on the inside of the steering rack as well as the steering arm bushings and a wheel bearing.... it seemed to help a bit but not completely.

This year I noticed that the tires are wearing on the inside edge and when braking hard or braking when towing my boat, there is a significant amount of shimmying in the steering.

ANY suggestions???

BTW and FYI... I noticed that I can buy a rebuilt rack and pinion from USA mail order for about 15% of the cost of one from a Canadian retailer.
