Steering Wheel Emblem Badge?

AFAIK all Gen4 came without no chrome badge. Hard to say if it would work, but I would think it might look tacky unless you somehow secure the emblem on well.

I would like to put the Toyota logo on my Gen4, but I think it might be too much work to do it.

you can always buy it and see if it works out

I think you're correct. The Gen4 has a "plain Jane" steering wheel. It's strictly functional. The Toyota logo is simply embossed into the steering wheel cover. Whereas the newer Camry steering wheels appear to have a recessed oval into which the emblem badge fits. In comparison, on a Gen4 the badge would be surface mounted.

Agreed. Tacky is definitely not the goal.

I checked the Toyota Camry GRACIA (Japan domestic model) of the Gen4. The Gracia usually has all the nicer stuff compared to the Gen4 in the united states. Even those models have the same steering wheel cover as the US models. Even the ES300 equivalent is the same with the 'L' that is embossed .

Unless you somehow transplant a Gen5 steering wheel...

Chrome is nice, but I get some weird glare sometimes with the steering wheel emblem if the sun is at the right angle.

Try check out a 2003 Solara.


The first Gen from 1998-2003 used a lot of similar components from the Camry Gen4. Try see if the steering wheel is the same. I believe the 2003 Solara has a chrome toyota logo. With that said, maybe the steering wheel is the same as the 1998 to 2003 Solara and maybe the same as the 1997-2001 Camry?

If changing to another Toyota wheel (Solara, Celica, etc.) what about the air bag?
Adding an appropriate badge to the OEM steering wheel is definitely a simpler option if it exists.

Just remember, if you glue a badge on there it will basically become shrapnel if the airbag ever goes off.

I wondered if this might be an issue. However, the newer generation models have this exact type of emblem on the steering wheel. See the 3rd photo here.

How specifically does the airbag deploy? Does the steering wheel cover pop off before it deploys or does the airbag deploy through the cover?

The words AIR BAG, along with 'embedded' leap to mind...

This would be a nice upgrade to my 1998 Camry. Thing is there are never any solara in our junkyard. Solara are kind of a rare thing here.
