If I missed this in the search... forgive me...

Anyhow, I usually don't have a problem with things like this, but I guess since she's under 72 hours old, I'm a little nervous.

Truck: '08 Access Cab w/ SR5.. manual....

So, I bought a Pioneer headunit, to replace the factory, single CD, CD player (cheap one), and I disconnected one harness, that I have NO IDEA what it is... any help?

Pic:

Also... does ANYONE have any pointers on how to remove the hazard/clock display from the casing??? I'm missing something, 'cause I can't get it out.

Thanks....!

my guess is the steering wheel controls
I just took a quick look at the back of my factory deck. It plugs in there, but Im not sure what its for. Im about to tear apart my truck in an hour or so, Ill take a look.

**edit: I just popped my dash, If I remember correct, its for the rear speakers. Im running RCAs so I just stuffed it in the back of the dash.

I don't have steering wheel controls. Would they attach a harness in the dash... regardless...?

Hmmm.. I hooked up the after market with just the 2 harnesses that I know what they are.... tweeters, doors, and rear all worked.

I unfortunately had to disconnect everything, and replace the factory head unit.... couldn't get the hazard button/clock out of the casing... and I was running out of daylight.

Steering wheel controls are the definitive answer here. Wiring diagram shows violet/white white/red yellow/blue as the colors.... and thats whats in the picture =)

As to the hazard/clock, I had to employ a long/thin flat head screwdriver and a lot of gentle persuasion from the back of the face plate to get that sucker out. Theres four tabs I believe, keep firm pressure backwards from the front while prying and you'll feel a click here... then there... as you get the tabs loose. Finally it'll pop out the rear.
I can not tell from the pic too well, but it looks like it could be for the steering wheel controller. The wire colors for that are Violet (w/White stripe), White (w/Red stripe) and Yellow (w/black stripe) per the wiring diagrams.

Edit: Licinius beat me. LOL
Thanks... I'll go w/ the steering wheel controls. :)

I'll take another shot at removing the clock tomorrow...

yes its the steering wheel controls. The truck comes prewired even if you do not have the controls.

On removing the clock. There are tabs on all four sides you have to separate from the housing to get it to release. Start on one end and work your way around. You shouldn't have to pry very much just enough to allow the tab to clear.

yes! the bottom and top have 2 tabs each, and the 2 sides hava 1 tab each. i used a butter knife, worked fine.
Performed the exchange on my vehicle yesterday. Hardest part of the entire thing was the clock/hazard light removal.

BTW, which Pioneer did you get? I installed the DEH-4900 and placed the Aux input through the cubby hole under the radio.

I went with the Pioneer DEH-P4000UB. This will hold me off 'til I can throw some cash at a unit that includes GPS and all the other nerdy bells and whistles. I picked up a ground loop isolator for my Sirius, and the rear aux input. Basically, I'll be able to leave the Sirius hooked up through the rear, it has a USB plug for the girl's iPod, and an aux in on the front for my iPhone.
